Reg a April 17, 1926 WINNETKA TALK THEATRE GUILD OFFERS NEW PLAY NEXT WEEK "The Enchanted April" to be Given at Byron Stolp Audi- torium April 22 Considerable interest is centered in the play to be presented Thursday, April 22, by the North Shore Theatre guild Players at the Byron Stolp audi- torium. The offering will be a dramati- zation of the widely read book en- titled "The Enchanted April" by Eliza- beth, said to be a member of the Eng- lish nobility writing under the non de plume of "Elizabeth." The story of the play, which is un- doubtedly familiar to the book readers of this community, relates how four women of various stations in the life of London went to live for a month in a castle on the Mediterranean shore. They were strangers to one another and they had their several excuses for seeking a retreat wherein they could ponder their embarrassments in soli- tude. Matrimony, for instance, had be- come a weary jog-trot to Lotty, the wife of a mean, little London barrister, Rose, being of a religious turn of mind, was in trouble because her hus- band, a historical novelist, preyed in his work upon the sins of Cleopatra, Du Barry and other scarlet landmarks of the past. Lady Caroline Dester sought sanctuary from society and the attentions of hollow suitors for her hand. Mrs. Fisher wished to cloister herself so that she could sit in the sun and dream of Ruskin, Gladstone, Meredith and similar childhood ac- quaintances. Complications Enter During the month the privacy of the four women was not to be encroached and with them a lot 'of complications that serve to keep an audience in high humor throughout the performance of the play. Select Stellar Cast The cast for "The Enchanted April" will include Mrs. Laird Bell of Win- netka, remembered for her stellar work in "Mary the Third," "The Truth About Blayds" and other Theatre Guild successes, who will play Mrs. Fisher; Helen Sanford (Mrs. Midget in "Out- ward Bound") who plays Lottie Wilkins; Miss Isabel Cline of Kenil- worth, who is making her first appearance with the Theatre Guild, plays Rose Arbuthnot, and Julia Hanks, who starred as halfway Ann in "Out- ward Bound," in the role of Lady Caroline. Mellerish Wilkins is played by Mr. Brewer, also making his first ap- pearance; Dominico, by J. Lincoln Gibson; Ferdinand Arundel, by E. Lyman, Jr, and Francesca by Mrs. Donald F. McPherson.
