Christian Science Churches "Are Sin, Disease, and Death Real?" was the subject of the lesson sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, Sun- day, April 11. The Golden Text was from Proverbs 12:28, "In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death." Among the citations which comprised the sermon was the following pertinent selection from the Bible: "lI have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Thou wilt shew me the path of life; in thy presence is fulness of joy; at they right hand are pleasures for evermore" (Psalms 16:8; 11). Also a corresponding passage from the Christian Science textbook, "Sci- ence and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "The calm, strong currents of true spirituality, the manifestations of which are health, purity, and self-immolation, must deepen human experience, until the beliefs of material existence are seen to be a bald imposition, and sin, and death give everlasting place to the scientific demonstration of divine Spirit and to God's spiritual perfect man." IN SUCCESSFUL CONCERT Isabel Richardson Molter had a very successful appearance Easter Sunday night, at Appleton, Wis, in Rossini's "Stabat Mater," at the Lawrence con- servatory. She is to appear as soloist with the Little Symphony of Chicago, at the Evanston Country club, April 23. 514% MONEY Have funds to loan on choice improved North Shore Suburban residence property at 5% 9% in- terest. Guiomar Novaes, Brilliant Wom- an Pianist to Appear in Series Next Season The name of Guiomar Novaes has been synonymous with brilliant pianism since this young South American made her debut in this country a little less than ten years ago. Mme. Novaes is to be one of the artists in the 1926-27 series of the Winnetka Music club. Mme. Novaes was born in 1895, in a small town near Sao Paulo, Brazil When six years old her parents placed her under the guidance of the well known piano teacher, Luigi Chiafferelli. So rapid was her progress that she gave her first recital when she was but nine, and thereafter made frequent public appearances. At fourteen the Brazilian Government sent her to Paris to compete in the entrance test for the competitive scholarship to be awarded by the Paris Conservatoire. Arriving in Paris on the last day of examination she found herself one of 388 con- testants. The compositions in which the candidates were to be judged were the Schumann Carnival and Chopin's Ballade in A flat. Mme. Novaes came off with first honors, and was placed under the instruction of Isadore Philippe. At the end of the second year she was awarded the Premier Prix du Con- servatoire. Makes Debut at 17 Mme. Novaes made her debut in her seventeenth year. Numerous engage- ments followed in England, Germany, Ttaly, and Switzerland. In 1916, upon the advice of friends, she came to America, and gave her first recital in Aeolian Hall, where she created a veritable sensation. . Her next season in the United States will be her tenth. Her audiences con- stantly increase, and sold-out houses are the rule when she appears. Mme. Novaes has perhaps succeeded to Carreno's place. In her bigness of style, warmth, tenderness, and calm dignity combined with brilliant tech- nique. Every concert by this pianist is an experience, for Mme. Novaes never gives a "routine" performance.
