How were they preserved, transmitted to succeeding generations, and translated into other languages than the original Greek and Hebrew? How have the modern discoveries in the field of archeology affected our knowledge of this ancient book? These and similar questions will be discussed by the Rev. Thomas A. Goodwin in the third and last of the series of lectures on the Bible, in the library of the Congregational church, Wednesday evening, April 28, at 8 o'clock. Last Wednesday Mr. Goodwin told something of the growth of the Old Testament. He spoke of it as "the spiritual autobiography of a people," contained, as biographies often do, many different kinds of writings, poems, letters, speeches, stories, his- torical data and anything else which serves the author's purpose. "No one supposes that the parts dealing with the infancy of the subject were all written during his infancy," Mr Goodwin said, "but stories which had been remembered and told by word of mouth later were written down for later generations to read." North Shore Pharmacy Undergoes Remodeling T. R. Adams, proprietor of the North Shore Pharmacy at 940 Linden avenue, Hubbard Woods, is doing some re- modeling at the store, with a view of obtaining space for larger window dis- play. He also is adding some new fix- tures, which will be in keeping with his well-appointed place. This work has been in progress the past week and Mr. Adams hopes to have it all com- pleted by May 1. Camp Fire Sparks Hiking and camping-out promise to be the favorite spring pastimes of the Winnetka Camp Fire girls. The out- door program of the Winnetka group opened officially Saturday, April 17, with a ten mile hike. The route lay through Glencoe, across the Skokie to the Dundee road to Chi- pilly Ridge forest preserve, where a halt was made for lunch. While the most famished nibbled rye crisp, cheese, raisins, and chqcolate, a few hardy aspirants for the rank of fire-maker learned to build a model fire. Eggs were fried on a flat stone greased with bacon drippings, then carefully re- moved with jack knives for immediate consumption. Proceeding westward only a few hun- dred yards from the preserve, the hikers turned south, following for several miles a wandering bird-frequented lane, continuing into Winnetka by Happ and Willow roads. Distances were short- ened by singing, camp fire and Skokie songs rivaling in popularity. Frequent stops to examine and identify birds and trees kept interest high. From Hibbard road fifteen girls and a guardian trailed home weary and enthusiastic, hatching plans for further spring hikes. Miss Marjorie Pardee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pardee of Detroit, formerly of Wilmette, is the house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Shaw of Spruce street, during her spring va- cation. ---- Perry Lieber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Lieber, will spend the week- end with his parents and will have as his guest, Fred Fisher, his room- mate and fraternity brother at the University of Illinois. Announcement We wish to announce that we have recently added a new Invalid Coach (more commonly called Ambulance) to our equipment. Aside from its beautiful and dignified appearance, its most pleasing feature is the side door loading, where the patient is placed into the Coach through the large side door, as in a private limousine, instead of through the rear door as in the old style ambulance. The Coach is equipped with full sized balloon tires and the cot is supplied with an air mattress which adds to the riding comfort of the patient. It also contains a Doctor's emergency cabinet, electric fan, etc., all of which add to the safety and convenience | of the patient.
