I a May 15, 1926 WINNETKA "TALK 11 ARDEN TO OPEN SOON Winter Camp Closes May 19, and 20th Annual Season Begins as Soon as Chicago Schools End With the winter camp closing of Arden Shore planned for Wednesday, May 19, and graduating exercises to be held somewhere near the date, im- petus is being lent the preparations for the opening of the 26th annual sea- son at the camp. The day following the close of Chi- cago city schools in June, the first contingent of staff workers and mothers and youngsters will arrive at Lake Bluff. The first group in- cludes beside the staff of directors and helpers of various sorts, about 150 young girls who spend two weeks each there as waitresses, about 30 under- nourished girls who have been refused working certificates by the Chicago Board of Education, more than a score each of convalescent little girls and boys removed from city hospitals to the bracing and beautiful open air surroundings of the camp, mothers and children from crowded tenement districts and little girls who occupy "Cinderella Lodge." Capacity Program for Summer When these regular staff members are assigned and those needful of spending the entire season at the camp are placed, another contingent is brought out to Arden Shore and the capacity program is actually on for the summer. A forerunner of the summer pro- gram is the annual campaign for sub- scriptions now on in Chjcago and along the North Shore, committees seeking this season to raise $50,000. The expense of another well, made necessary by enlarging the camp ca- pacity to accommodate an additional 100, is to be met this season over and above the regular disbursements. Arden Shore, a non-sectarian camp, is endorsed by the Subscriptions In- vestigating Committee of Chicago Chamber of Commerce and is a mem- ber of the Chicago Council of Social Agencies.
