The leader, William Ayer Mc Kinney, presented to the class a plan he is just presenting to his fellow stockholders of Speedaumat Addressing Machinery, Inc., on which he invited discussion. This plan proposes a number of things not usual in business set-ups at the present time. Not only are em- ployves offered an opportunity to in- | vest in the company's stock, but there is one class of stock which is for em- ployes only. Employes are to be per- mitted to buy this for cash. It is hoped that eventually cash bonuses to employes out of a certain part of pro- fits will furnish funds to them from which they may buy this stock, as well as from part of their regular wage | or salary. All employes of whatever | rank will be permitted to buy this em- ploye stock. Employes Gain Control If the company attains a certain | position financially, this employe | stock, which meanwhile has had a | limited vote, comes to have the sole | vote. The management of the com- | pany then {falls completely into the | {hands of the employes. They will | | elect the board of directors, which in | | turn will elect the officers. Salary fix- | | ing, employing, all functions of pro- | duction, engineering, sales, account- | |ing, and general management will re- | "| these officers or this board, both of which will be directly responsible to the employes as stockholders. The one reservation is that limited dividends must be: kept up on the in- vestors' stock. Any default in them i carries the vote back to the investors' stock, and the employe stock loses its vote entirely until these dividends have again been maintained for three years. Somewhat similar plans are in ef- fect in the A. Mark company, (the Golden Rule clothing factory) of Cin- cinnati, the Columbia Conserve com- pany of Indianapolis, the American | Cast Iron Pipe company in Alabama. A plan to which the one proposed is similar, though in no sense a copy of it, is in effect in the Dennison Manu- facturing company of Framingham, Mass. All these are conspicuously successful concerns. The discussion and attendance showed the interest in the subject. It |is to be continued next Sunday morn- ing at 9:30 in Community House. This will be the last session of the class this year, and the class will close with a brief study of Jesus' view of wealth. All men interested, whether they have ever attended the class before or not, will be most welcome Award Contracts for New Paving, Water and Sewer At the meeting of the Village coun- cil last Tuesday evening contracts for paving and installing sewer and water in Spruce street between Glendale avenue and Hibbard road were let. Goelitz, Oak Park, the amount being $9,625.90; A Monaco of Chicago was given the sewer contract at a price of $3,043.50 and the water contract was awarded James Viti and Son, of Highland Park, the amount being | side in the hands of those chosen by $4,437.90.
