Beatty, assistant superintendent of public schools of Winnetka and princi- pal of Skokie school, who is leaving at the close of this term to accept the superintendency of the public schools at Bronxville, N. Y. was presented with a beautiful painting in water colors of one of the splendid Skokie scenes by the well-known Winnetka artist, Hugo VonHofsten. ['he present was a gift from the children and also the members of the faculty. The presentation speech was made by Harry Clark, director of athletics at Skokie school. Mr. Beatty was also presented with one of the service pins, which were presented to certain members of the student body in recognition of the value of the spirit of individual service. This presentation was made by Jane Copthorne, president of the student body. FIRE DAMAGES FENCE The Winnetka fire department was called to the James I. Houghteling place at 731 Prospect avenue, Wednes- day, to extinguish a blaze in a large pile of leaves, which damaged the fence to the extent of about $10. Mr. Meyer has been residing in St. Louis since the first of the year, but will return to the City June 12. The young couple are taking a European honeymoon and are sailing from Montreal June 25, on the S. S. Montrose. They will go to Toronto first, and take the trip through the Thousand Islands to Montreal. They are arranging an extensive tour of England, Holland, Belgium and France. Upon their return late in the summer, they will live in Evanston.
