Dean, 441 Willow road, re- turned June 16, from Yale university, where he has completed his Freshman year. Mr. Dean has distinguished him- self by winning two freshmen numer- als, for track and swimming. He is considered one of the best freshmen javelin throwers in his class, and took part in track meets at Andover and Harvard, competing with Princeton at Yale. Mr. Dean plans to be in Win- netka the greater part of the summer. Gilbert D. Johnson Firm Negotiates Acreage Deal An undisclosed purchaser has bought from John A. Sloan of Chicago ap- proximately 337 acres of rolling, par- tially wooded farm land west of Bar- rington and running from the County Line road south to the Algonquin road, at a price of $450 per acre. This prop- erty lies west of and adjoining the large tract recently purchased by Floyd L. Bateman as announced in this paper. Gilbert D. Johnson and Brother repre- sented the purchaser and K. E. Otis of Barrington represented the seller in the 337 acre transaction. Mrs. Davies Lazear, 892 Oak street, left Wednesday, June 9, for Montreal, where she will sail for Amsterdam, Holland. Mrs. Lazear is one of a party of ten on a tour conducted by Dr. Richard D. Hughes of Chicago. Dr. Lazear sails June 26, from Mon- treal, to join Mrs. Lazear in Lucerne, Switzerland. os One of the affairs given in honor of L. Ivan Couch, whose marriage took place June 9, Winnipeg, Canada, was a fraternity dinner at the Zeta Psi House, at the University of Man- itoba, Winnipeg, Canada. North Shore Men Attend Sessions on Road Widening H. H. Sherer, New Trier Township Highway commissioner, and Robert Kingery of Winnetka, secretary of the Chicago Regional Plan commission, were north shore men who attended a recent Cook county road conference called by Anton J. Cermak, president of the Cook county board of com- missioners. Important at this conference was the authorization of the appointment of a subcommittee to act with the Chicago Regional Plan commission in working out a survey of highways that need widening and to report back to the Widening committee of the County board at that body's next session. It was announced at the meeting that the Chicago Association of Com- merce is preparing a demand for a county bond issue to finance the widen- ing of existing roads and other im- portant contemplated highways. The conference urged President Cermak not to veto the 20-foot high- way plan which is under contract by the county at the present time. TO ADDRESS MEETING Mr. and Mrs. William A. Hadley, 913 Oak street, leave June 21, for a five-day trip to Nashville, Tenn. to at- tend a meeting of the American As- sociation of Instructors for the Blind. Mr. Hadley will speak of the work carried on by the Hadley Corres- pondence School for the Blind in Win- netka, on Tuesday evening. Emily Hadley may accompany her parents to Nashville.
