A School of Education has | been authorized by the board of trustees of the university, and will be- | gin its work at the opening of the next | school year. It will hold rank with | the Schools of law, medicine, dentristy, | commerce, speech and music, and will | perform the service for those prepar- | ing to teach and for other educational positions that the other professional schools perform in their respective fields, it is explained. Prof. John E Stout, professor of educational admin- istration at Northwestern, has been ap- pointed dean of the new school. The organization of the new school is in harmony with the long established policy of the university to meet the demand for professionally trained teachers and school administrators, it is said. In the earlier days a few courses were offered in the college of liberal arts to meet this need. As the work developed need arose for a larger recognition of the work and a depart- ment of education was organized. The growth of this department has been rapid and there has been a constantly increasing registration in its courses. Christian Science Churches "God the Preserver of Man" was the subject of the Lesson-Sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientists, Sunday, June 13. The Golden Text was from Psalms 121:7, "The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul." Among the citations which com- prised the Lesson-Sermon was the fol- lowing from the Bible: "Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O Lord, thou preservest man and beast. How excellent is thy loving kindness, O God! therefore the chil- {dren of men put their trust under the | shadow of thy wings" (Psalms 36:5-7). The Lesson-Sermon also included the following passage from the Chris- tian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "In divine Science, man is sustained by God, the divine Principle of being. The earth, at God's command, brings forth food for man's use. Knowing this, Jesus once said, "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, --presuming not on the prerogative of his creator, but recognizing God, the Father and Mother of all, as able to feed and clothe man as He doth the lilies" (p. 530). Emily Hadley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Hadley, 913 Oak street, returned home from Earlham college, Tuesday, June 15.
