Fi 42 a June 26, 1926 WINNETKA-TALK Frank DeHaven, master of Anchor and Arc lodge. Selection by the band. Hymn by audience and band--"Ten Thousand Times Ten Thousand." Address by Dr. R. E. Hieronymus, com- munity advisor on the faculty of the University of Illinois. The formal words of dedication of the memorial by President Western were as follows: "In the name of Mod- ern Cemetery and Mausoleum com- pany, and of the principles of Masonry, and of the spirit of co-operation of Art and Nature, and to the glory of Almighty God and in memory of those who have passed the unseen portals, I now dedicate this memorial. My this monument, wrought in everlasting granite, here to stand for untold cen- turies, daily teach men the lessons of | wisdom, beauty and virtue, forever." Gov. A. O. Eberhart and Dr. Hier- | onymus made masterly addresses. The former Minnesota executive is always | happy, entertaining and thought-in- | spiring in his speeches. Among other things he said: : "North Shore cemetery is a revela- | tion to me. Never before have I seen | such a beautiful place under the name cemetery. The reason is that the ceme- teries with which I have been last ac- quainted represent gloom instead of cheerfulness, death instead of life, ugliness instead of beauty. This ceme- tery is the personification of all that is beautiful, cheerful and hope inspir- ing." Praises Cemetery Dr. Hieronymus delivered a scholarly and inspiring address. He quoted lib- erally from poets and artists and de- scribed great paintings for the purpose of showing that the lessons taught by the varied pictures to be seen in North Shore cemetery will have lasting in- fluence in inspiring higher culture. He said : "I am convinced that this is the be- ginning of a movement. I speak ad- visedly when I say 'movement, as it is something higher and more lasting than a mere enterprise or even an in- stitution. The work which Mr. West- ern has done here is the beginning of a movement which will spread through- out this country and inspire people to provide more beautiful and permanent places for human interment." The exercises were concluded by the singing of "America," followed by the benediction pronounced by Dr. Gan- ster. Two deputy sheriffs had charge of parking the cars and policing the grounds. A count of the cars was made as they departed after the dedi- cation exercises. Notice the new house Lee Vin- cent is building for himself at the southeast corner of Elm and Lo- cust streets, Winnetka. There is quality being built into this home through and through. Our sign on the job insures that. "I'll give you a dime, Tommy, if vou get me a lock of your sisters hair." "Make it a quarter and I'll get you the whole bunch. I know where she hangs it." The Wm. Salmen Co. is putting in the foundation for Mr. Englethaler's new residence on Woodlawn ave- nue, Glencoe. Washed Sand and Gravel with Alpha Portland Cement are being used. The foundation, af- ter all, is one of the most import- ant factors in any building, and a good foundation cannot be made with other than good materials. "We ought to get a lot of things done," says George Gonsalves. "These days are the longest of the year." There's surely space in your home for a little breakfast room. "They're a real joy," we've deserted our din- ing room since we built in our breakfast nook" says one lady of our acquaintances. Come in and see us for measurements etc. What is so rare as a day in June? Have you a built in ironing board in your home? You'll never know the convenience of this feature until you've installed one. Tell your husband you want one... and then keep right after him. He'll come over and buy one for you. There's an awful difference in the weight of a hoe handle and a fish- | ing pole. Winnetka Coal - Lumber Go, 823 Spruce Street Winnetka 734
