B. degrees from Smith college this week was Miss Elizabeth Rice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rice, 518 Central avenue, Wilmette. Miss Rice majored in psychology and was a member of the Psychology club, which is composed of students who do particularly good work in that department. She was also a member of the college choir which sings at college exercises. Miss Rice intends to take up kindergarten work. Two Winnetka girls received their A. B. degrees from Smith college, Miss Margaret De Lay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold De Lay, 878 Oak street, and Miss Elinor Woodward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Woodward, 685 Ardsley road. Miss De Lay prepared for college in New Trier High school, and at Smith majored in history. She was on the dean's list, which is composed of students attaining an academic average of B or better. She was also a member of the House of Representatives, the legislative body of student self govern- ment. Miss De Lay was especially interested in athletics and played on the basketball, baseball and hockey teams. She also took part in the an- nual senior dramatic production which was unusually interesting this year be- cause of the futurist costumes and set- tings. Miss Woodward prepared for college in the Chicago Latin School for Girls and received her degree Cum Laude. She majored in English and because of her literary abilities was on the edi- torial staff of Weekly, the college news- paper. She was also advertising man- ager of the senior class book, an an- nual publication of the graduating class. In her freshman year, Miss Woodward was on the freshman honor roll. an academic honor based on academic record that year. Caroline Case of Hubbard Woods is another graduate of Smith this week. Three New Trier Pupils Win N. U. Scholarships Three north shore young people, graduates of New Trier, are included among those who have been awarded scholarships from the College of Liber- al Arts at Northwestern university. They are Josephine Comfort of Win- netka: Ralph Heineman of Winnetka, and Margaret Walker of Wilmette. Ralph Heineman was one of the win- ners in the "On to Europe" subscrip- tion salesmanship contest recently con- ducted by Lloyd Hollister, Inc, for New Trier boys.
