WINNETKA TALK July 3, 1926 ROBUST health comes from nourishing food. As the supreme form of nourishment Peter's Quality Meats lend strength to growing and active bodies. Buehler of Glen. coe General Chairman of International Convention Dr. With the arrival of Secretary of Labor James J. Davis, director general of the Loyal Order of Moose, Monday of this week, preparations for the in- ternational convention of that order, frem July 1 to July 6, came to a head Mr. Davis is quartered in the "Presi- dential bungalow" on the roof of the Hotel Sherman. Dr. William E. Buehler, of Glencoe, general chairman of the convention committee, states that the arrange- ments for the five days and nights have been perfected and that this will be the most important assemblage the order has ever held. "It will take first importance," Dr. Buehler says, "because the Loyal Or- der of Moose is now at the highest point of membership in its history-- having grown from less than seven hundred, at which point Mr. Davis became its head and under whose di- rection and management it has grown to 750,000. The membership in Chicago and vicinity is also greater than ever was known before, there being nearly 20,000 on the rolls here. The conven- tion will also take first place because Chicago has Mooseheart in its arms, you might say, and everyday the citi- zens of Chicago are becoming more and more aware of the natural charm and the practical service of this won- derfu! home, schcol, industrial acad- emy and citizenship-university which is maintained solely by the members Moose. Another feature that lends importance to this convention is that this vear the supreme dictator- chip is to be conferred upon a distin- Af ha | guished citizen of our sister country [to the north, the dominion of Canada, | thus emphasizing the international | character of the order. We expect | fully a quarter of a million visitors | during the convention--no such huge | assemblage as Chicago has just enter- | tained, yet a pretty good sized crowd. Our international parade on July 5 should have 25000 men in line, and will be a splendid sight. The spec- tacular pageant and dramatic produc- tion, 'The Birth of Chicago, on Sol- diers' Field, will be an unusual feature of the week, and the general program 1s arranged to appeal to all the mem- | bers of our order, as well as to the | general public whenever and wherever | public attendance is possible." { The convention was opened formally with a pub- | {at 9:30 o'clock, Thursday. jhe session at the Auditorium theater. [It was preceeded by a concert by the Mooseheart Boys band, and there were also solos bv Raimond Baltar, the Mooseheart boy tenor, Agnes Lighthall, Mario Carboni and Marie Sedenius Zendt. The women of Mooseheart Legion-- the women's branch of the order--has a program arranged for each day, and has scheduled a "grand frolic" for Saturday evening in the Bal Tabarin room of the Sherman. Sunday, July 4, will be the occasion of a pilgrimage to Mooseheart, the entire program for that day being scheduled for the children's home there. Graduation exercises of the Mooseheart school will take place then. The affair is open to the public and a crowd of thousands is expected. Monday, July 5, will occur the big ~ivic celebration and Moose parade. The celebration will be in Grant Park, vith addresses by the Hon. James J. Davis, Hon. Oscar Carlstrom and Hon Redney H. Brandon. The parade will form at Chicago avenue, march south on Michigan avenue, and file into Crant Park at the Stadium. WINNETKA BUILDING NEWS Vol. 1 Winnetka, Il.
