July 10, 1926 WINNETKA TALK 33 PRESENT OPERATIC GEMS AT RAVINIA (Continued from page 9) «cast are Desire Defrere, Paolo Anani- an, Louis D'Angelo, Margery Maxwell, Jose Mojica, Anna Correnti and Louis Derman. Louis Hasselmans will con- duct. For Friday night, July 16, that me- lodious and dramatic Verdi opus "Il Trovatore" has been scheduled, in which Elisabeth Rethberg will be heard as Lenora and Giovanni Marti- nelli will appear in the name part. Ina Burskaya will be Azucena and Giu- seppi Danise will be Count di Luna. This opera, with its magnificent arias and ensembles is a stand-by of the standard list, and no better cast could be found than the one available at Ra- vinia. Both Mme. Rethberg and Mar- tinelli have full opportunity for the dramatic singing for which they are noted. Danise is vocally ideal as Di Luna, while the singing and charac- terization of Mme. Bourskaya as Azu- cena are outstanding. "L'Amore Dei Tre Re" which holds a position of special honor in the Ra- vinia repertoire, will be given on Sat- urday night, July 17. Mme. Bori, who has made the part of Fiora an opera- tic classic, will be heard in this role while Edward Johnson will appear as Avito. Basiola is cast as Manfredo and Lazzari as Archibaldo. This quar- tet of principals has demonstrated that both in singing and acting they are especially endowed to portray the depth of emotion upon which this Montemezzi wrok is founded. Others in the cast are Mojica, Miss Paggi and Miss Falco. Papi will conduct. Miss Mary Lannen, 1021 Greenleaf avenue, left Tuesday for a three weeks' visit in Amboy, IIL Thomas J.
