ROTI July 10, 1926 WINNETKA TALK VISITOR PRAISES INDIAN HILL CAMP (Continued from Page 3) campers, boys and girls, two years ago. I looked out over Lake Ham- lin, across the sand dunes to Lake Michigan, and then got a sweeping, hazy view of the silent, blue-green blueberry swamps. "From the tower we climbed down the hill to the concrete tennis court to see a spirited match. But base- ball was being played that ended with a tie in the ninth inning, taking two extra innings to play it off. They play baseball every night except Sun- day. Praises Camp Fire "But when I write of the camp fire at night after supper and after base- ball, IT can say little, because of the impression it made on me. Songs were sung, and a tent entertained with a turtle race, beating any horse or automobile race I ever saw. And fin- ally Chief Davies told a story and talked, the camp fire glowed, and the waves rippled and washed nearby. A simple prayer followed the talk, and with Good night, Chief, the boys trouped up the hill to bed. "And this is Indian Hill Camp. The picture I carry away with me is one of the war canoes furnished by Com- munity House--eighteen boys in each canoe, with paddles dripping in the sunlight--thirty-six boys paddling in time and according to the speed called by the stroke--thirty-six boys, brown, husky, laughing, cut the water with speed enough to pass a motor launch easily. This is Indian Hill camp." These boys were winners in the and contests which formed a part of the Fourth of July program at the camp.
