Fa - July 17, 1926 WINNETKA TALK 43 HEALTH WAVE HERE State Health Director Calls July, Au- gust and September Healthiest Months Over 35000 new babies will arrive in Illinois, while less than 17,000 per- sons will be carried away on the crest of a health wave that will sweep across the state during the next three months if the season runs true to form, according to Dr. Isaac D. Rawlings, state health director. In spite of sun- strokes, heat prostrations and drown- ings that overtake the unwary at this season, fewer deaths occur and less disease prevails during July, August and September than in any other three months' period of the year. At the same time the number of births in this quarter exceeds by more than 1,000 that of any other quarter. "Through conscious effort man has made the summer months the most healthful of the twelve," said Dr. Rawlings. "Up until a few years ago the ravages of typhoid fever, summer diarrhea, diphtheria and other infec- tions made the death rate for July, August and September higher than that for either the second or the fourth quarters. Fatalities Drop As late as 1913 there were 16,735 fatalities in the third quarter against 16,552 in the second and 14,891 in the fourth. The average for the last four years gives the third quarter 16,598 against 18,707 in the second and 18,425 in the fourth, The first quarter al- most invariably has by far the heaviest mortality rate. "Communicable diseases reported during August and September com- bined are less than one-half that of many single months, while in August the disease incidence is frequently far lower than for any other month. Last year for instance, August yielded only 6,288 reported cases of all diseases, while the next lowest month, Septem- ber, gave 7,447, and the highest, March, had 19,099 cases to its credit. "Conscious effort has made summer the happy vacation season for man and it will require vigilant attention to keep it that way. Heavy tourist traffic, densely populated summer re- sorts equipped to provide for dozens instead of the scores who come and the emphasis in some quarters on income instead of service make little health FOR DISTINCTIVE PERMANENT WAVING (Negrescou's Pure Steam Process) As Low as $15.00 Also HAIR GOODS For discriminate requirements con- sult Mr. John Negrescou, 30 years on State Street.
