D., has Boat House, Diving Raft, and been an assistant freshman football | coach at Northwestern university, it was announced yesterday by Director of Athletics Kenneth I. "Tug" Wilson. Rusness, whose first connection with the Purple came with his application for admission to the law school, which f| he will enter this fall, comes from the | University of North Dakota, where he | was in charge of the freshmen teams. Before that he was in complete charge | of athletics at the Fargo high school. He enjoyed unusual success there. Besides winning numerous state ti- tles in football, basketball and track, he is given the first credit for produc- ing such stars as Waldo Fisher and Bobby Rusch, who in their sophomore vears at Northwestern last year were the bright lights of the frosh grad- uates. Fisher was selected all-confer- ence basketball center by a majority of the sports writers. Besides assisting Coach Maury Kent in the tutoring of the frosh gridders, Rusness will assist in the Northwest- ern professional school intramural pro- gram. Mrs. J. H. The daily temperature records, which are taken and posted [on the boat house, indicate that the [water is warming up which should be |good news to the swimmers. | The diving raft is in the water. All |of the beach is clean and ship-shape, | excepting that small part around the | new water works where construction | work is going on and this will be cared for as soon as the work is completed. Due to this construction work the stairway and walk to the boat house are not in the best of condition but every effort is being made to speedily remedy this. In the meantime, cau- tion should be taken in going to and from the boat house. The beach umbrellas and benches will be on the beach each day and this year the beach on the south side oi the pier has been set aside for the ames of the older boys and the beach on the north side of the pier has been reserved for swimming and the place where the little kiddies may play in safety and not be hampered by the older ones. Use Utmost Care A safety rope will be strung in the water on the north side of the pier and within the safety rope a special [place will be roped off for the kiddies. | The place for the kiddies to swim will |be examined each day to make sure |that the shifting sands have not | formed any deep holes or pockets. A life guard will be on duty from 9 o'clock in the morning to 8:30 or 9 o'clock in the evening, depending up- on the weather, and these should be | considered the open hours of the beach. A conspicuous sign will be posted when the life guard is "off duty" and it seems advisable that peo- [ple remain out of the water when this [sign is up. The life guard has been | instructed to see that all children un- | accompanied by parents have left the beach before closing for the evening. | The life boat which is on the beach |is reserved exclusively for the use ot the life guard and should not be used {by the swimmers, which has often oc- curred in the past. No ore is to be allowed on the raft who cannot swim and no dogs should be brought to the beach unless under leash, it is announced.
