an September 4, 1926 WINNETKA TALK WILMETTE BUILDER F. H. Gathercoal Starts Work on Seventh Home in Seventeenth Street Area; Son Designs Structures F. H. Gathercoal, real estate opera- tor and builder, with offices at 1213 Wilmette avenue, Wilmette, began work this week on the superstructure of the seventh house which he has erected on Seventeenth street, Wil- mette, one of the pretty west side streets of Wilmette which has been almost solidly built up in three years. Three years ago when this section was sub-divided by Hoyt King, of Wil- mette his Seventeenth street lots were sold as low at $35 per foot. Mr. Gath- ercoal recalls, at which time he pur- chased eight lots. The lot on which he is building the present house he says cost him $80 per foot. It is a fifty foot lot and is being improved with a six-room strictly colonial house of brick and stucco, with sun porch and sleeping porch and will go on the market about October 15 at $17,000. Upon completion of this house, Mr. Gathercoal says he expects to direct his building and selling efforts in King's Court at Glenayer. The last three houses which Mr. Gathercoal has erected, have been products of his son, James L. Gather- coal, who is in the employ of Chester H. Walcott, the well known architect with offices in Tribune Tower. Mr. Gathercoal, Sr. says that his future buildings will be designed in accord- ance with some certain period of architecture. His son expects to leave September 13, for an extended study tour in Europe, when he will visit Italy, France, Germany and England, being abroad six months or more.
