Under the new health ordinance, adopted re- cently, a board of health is created, and it is specified that the health com- missioner devote his full time to the work, which will include educational hygiene and more complete examina- tion of school children. A number of physicians have applied for the posi- tion of health commissioner. Dr. C. 0. Schneider, present health commis- sioner, did not put in an application as he felt unwilling to give up his per- sonal practice. Mrs. Hattie Bradwell, widow of Judge Thomas Bradwell of Chicago, has bought the residence at 415 As- bury avenue from Morgan E. Cartier, and will occupy it the first of October. ---- Mr. and Mrs. Edwin S. Fetcher and family, 822 Bryant avenue, returned Monday, September 13, from a summer spent in their summer home near Traverse City, Mich. Plan Powerful Beacon for Emergency Signa Winnetka village officials arz plan- ning to install a new police signal to notify patrolmen to call the station when emergency calls are received at night. This will be a 900 candle-power searchlight of the General Electiic type, developed for the purpose of an air beacon and used by the air mail service. The new light is to be in- stalled on top of the Iredale warehouse on Center street in the near future. It will be controlled from the police sta- tion. The present signal iights for pa- trolmen are ordinary red lights located on the Village hall, the New Trier High school tower and the municipal water tower on the lake front. These are not always visible to the patrol- men. The new light is very pow- erful and it is hoped that tne experi- ment will prove successful so that it may replace the three red lights. Miss Eva May Johnson, 386 Fair- view avenue, will leave Winnetka with- in a week to attend Mount Holyoke: college in the East. Miss Johnson won. the woman's golf championship at Skokie club this season.
