Dakota Game This Saturday Large flood lights were installed at Northwestern university's new million dollar stadium this week as a crew of several hundred workmen were placed on a night shift to rush the big grid plant to completion for the opening game of the season with South Da- kota here Saturday. With the east stands completed workmen are now concentrating their attentions on getting the big west stands in readiness. Seats for nearly 25,000 spectators will be ready for the first game, it was announced this week by the contractors. Football fans attending Saturday's game need have no fear of being forced to wade through mud and water in case of rainy weather. Tons of cinders are being hauled to the big athletic field and placed on all ap- proaches to the entrances. These walks are being leveled off and rolled in preparation for the opening day crowds. Meanwhile Coach Thistlethwaite and his aids are busily engaged whipping his grid candidates into shape to meet the invasion of the South Dakota eleven. Coach Thistlethwaite plans to use a number of players in the opening game in order to get a line on what material he has available for the forthcoming season. Capt. "Moon" Baker will be back again at his old position at left half. He will be assisted in the back- field by a number of candidates in- cluding Griffith, Schumacher, Holmer, Gustafson, halfbacks; Solheim, Rusch, B. Fox and Welch, quarterbacks, and Levison and Colin, fullbaeks. A large number of ends will get a chance to perform. Fisher and Bovik, regulars from last year, will probably get a chance to show their wares. Gandy, Ritchie and Verdell, newcomers to the squad, are making strong bids for a flank assignment. Bob Johnson and R. Schuler are showing to ad- vantage at tackle assignments. Justin Dart, a sophomore, and Gordon Rakhr, letter men, together with a number of other candidates are waging a merry fight for the guard jobs.
