Public Service Stations More than 21,000 persons became better acquainted with the Public Serv- ice Company of Northern Illinois by means of personal visits to the Com- pany's gas and electricity manufac- turing plants during Open House Week, October 4-9. This is more than three times as many as took advantage of Open House opportunities last year. Although Waukegan and Joliet, where the company's principal elec- trical stations are situated, attracted the largest individual parties of visitors, the 21,000 persons represented in fair- ly equal proportion, the 278 communi- ties which are served by the company. Charles W.._ Bradley, vice-president in charge of public relations and serv- ice, described the results of the com- pany's second annual Open House Week as decidedly gratifying. Purchase Ten Acres in Highland for $300,000 Purchase of ten acres located at the Highlands in Evanston and Niles Center at an average price of $30,000 an acre is reported by the Paramount Realty corporation. This is said to be the highest price ever paid for acre- age in Cook county. The property is boundea on the east by Crawford avenue, on the north by Central street, on the west by Ridge road and on the south by Harrison street. Several parcels were purchased. It is all business property and entire- ly surrounds the new Highland termi- nal of the Evanston street railway at Ridge road and Harrison street. It is to be subdivided and, according to Frank R. Mason, vice president of the realty concern, it will retail in the neighborhood of a million dollars. The sellers were Charles F. Speed, manager of the Evanston street railway, Mit- chell Bros. and Frank Ketter. The Paramount concern also bought from Harry Kransz 20 acres at Har- rison street and Laramie avenue, two blocks from the Harmswood station of the new Skokie line, in Niles Center which they are now subdividing. Brown home at 1607 Elmwood avenue has been sold to P. J. Kirwan. A fifty foot lot on Sixteenth street near Gregory avenue has been sold to Leroy Harvey, who will begin this week to erect a home for his father. The J. W. Prather prop- erty in Dunas' subdivision near Sheri- dan road has been sold to J. M. Evans for a consideration of $15,000. The Frank Smith property on Marty street, Evanston, has been sold to H. C. Stringer for $5,000. A forty foot lot on Asbury avenue, Evanston, belong- ing to J. R. Raymond, has been sold to Orval Wright for $6,000. Electrical Construction Man Buys Site for Home Sidney Dell has purchased through Miss C. J. Hoey, of the North Shore Real Estate company, 418 Linden ave- nue, Wilmette, a 60 foot lot on Laurel avenue, just west of Sheridan road, on which he expects to build, immediately. a fine residence. OPEN OAKLAND SALESROOM The Shoreen Motor company, which has been in the automobile business on West Railroad avenue near Harrison street, Evanston, for several years, is holding an opening this week of its sales and service department for the Oakland and the Pontiac cars.
