Kutten Brothers Meyer Coal & Material Co. Edinger & Sons Stage and Screen News and Reviews The Messrs. Shubert, now sponsor- ing the entertainment on view in at least seven Chicago theaters, are ap- parently of the opinion that variety is much desired by local theater-goers. At least, a glance over the productions being shown would seem to substan- tiate such an opinion. For those who favor the chills and thrills of drama as it is worked out on the South Sea isles, they are showing "Kongo" at the Princess where Fred- eric Burt and his capable assistants nightly give full measure along that line. Of perhaps slightly lighter weight in the line of drama is "The Shelf" which opens October 25 at the LaSalle with Frances Starr, Arthur Byron and others. Dorrance Davis wrote it and it comes to Chicago after something of a New York run. Music, however, seems to be the particular field of endeavor in which they are unusually well fortified. No less than five successful musical en- tertainments are being shown by the Shuberts or will be on view within the next few days. Those who liked the "Student Prince" and others of its kind are flocking to the Great Northern where the "Vagabond King" has been so suc- cessful for many weeks. In this Den- nis King is making the hit of his life. In addition, Oct. 26 sees the opening of "The Princess Flavia" at the 4 Cohans theater. This comes with unusual rec- ommendation from New York and else- where bringing again to us the mag- nificent voice of Howard Marsh, star of "Blossom Time" and of the New York cast of "Student Prince." It is based on the novel, "The Prisoner of Zenda." Music in the lighter vein is amply taken care of by "Sweetheart Time" at the Garrick, "Kitty's Kisses" at the Olympic and the "Greenwich Village Follies" at the Apollo.
