October 23, 1926 WINNETKA TALK EASTERN STAR MEETS Grand Chapter Session at Springfield Votes Donations to Beardstown Fund and Other Organizations The Grand chapter session of the Fastern Star held in Springfield, Ill, last week was attended by several members of the Winnetka chapter. Mrs. F. M. Anderson of 910 Spruce street, worthy matron of the local chapter, reported the three-day ses- sion to show the enthusiasm from the many chapters represented. The great scope of the work of this organization can only be realized by the summary of some of the expendi- tures the Grand chapter authorizes. The delegates from Winnetka were especially impressed by the money voted toward the Speedway hospital, $500, and the $500 also voted to aid the Beardstown flood sufferers, as well as the $500 to be given to the Protestant Cripple Children's home in Chicago. $100 was also. voted to be given to a past Worthy Grand Matron of more than eighty years of age who is living in the Eastern Star home in Macon, 111. To Visit Old Folks Emphasis was laid on the Old Peo- ple's home in Rockford, TIL that a parlor car motor bus has been bought, a special garage built, and something over $11,000 spent in this venture to provide comfortable means of transporting the residents to meet- ings and entertainments. Altogether there has been spent by and for the home, - including grounds, sites, land improvements, buildings, etc, a total of $386,860.87, a worthy record for such an undertaking. Interest in this home 1s so great in the Winnetka chapter, that a trip has been organized to take place, Friday, November 12. At this time all mem- bers of the chapter will journey to Rockford, be met at the train by a bus, and visit the home. Members Donate Sweetmeats But the Winnetka women will not go to Rockford: empty-handed. They are planning to take dainty boxes of sweetmeats to the old people. Dona- tions are asked for and some have al- ready responded of candied fruits and nuts. Some members have sent in stuffed dates and other tempting foods, but more is desired, as every one of the fifty-eight women in the home is to have a parcel of her own. Mrs. F. M. Anderson, the worthy matron of the Winnetka chapter, has opened her home for the benefit of packing these boxes, and urges that every member come to her home at 910 Spruce street, Thursday, Novem- ber 11, Armistice Day, at 1 o'clock, when the boxes will be arranged and packed.
