Thursday, October | 14, he parked the car as usual, and went to his office. A bit later, he had a strange feeling that he had not locked his car, and, following his pre- monition, went out to attend to the little detail. When he arrived at Lake and Canal streets, he found someone had discovered his error, and had made away with the Buick. Authorities are in search of the car, which was three months old, splendid condition. More than twe hundred mothers and teachers attended a Parent-Teach- er meeting held Tuesday afternoon, October 26, at the Hubbard Woods school. Mrs. W. W. Shoemaker, presi- dent of the Hubbard Woods associ- ation reported on the work and aims of the organization. Superintendent Carleton C. W. Washburne then introduced Miss Flora Cook, the speaker of the after- noon, who is head of the Francis Parker school of Chicago. Miss Cook taught Mr. Washburne many years ago, and because of this fact, her talk was especially appealing. The audience felt that many of the ideals of the Winnetka Public school svstem were originally inspired by Miss Cook. Her idea of education is to let the child express himself in vari- ous channels, but he must be left alone to find his own work in an environ- ment rich with opportunities. Social and creative work are stressed and school and home must co-operate in emotional, intellectual and health in- terests of the child. The audience was invited to visit the Frances Parker school to view the work done in the Toy Shop, which Miss Cook called "the acme of social and creative in- spiration." The meeting was adjourned with a delightful, informal tea in the corridor of the school building. VOTERS!
