SMARLOIEE 1564 Sherman Avenue Evanston Wilmette Man New Partner in Hart- W hetston Concern John Blair Whidden, 1004 Elmwood avenue, Wilmette, the last seven years publicity and sales manager of the Central Manufacturing district, has an- nounced his acceptance of a special partnership in the firm of Hart and Whetston, specialist in industrial real estate. In his new connection Mr. Whidden becomes a principal of one of the largest and most successful firms spe- cializing in industrial real estate in Chicago. Among its hundreds of clients are numbered The American Tobacco company, Sears, Roebuck and com- pany, Marshall Field and company. The Western Electric company, and The New York Central railway. By training, experience and natural ability Mr. Whidden is admirably fitted for his new association. Born in San Francisco, Cal, he was left without father or mother at the age of 14 months. Starting to work for a living at the age of 13, he obtained on his own resources a high school education and worked his way through the Uni- versity of Chicago, taking' his degree with the class of 1907. At Chicago he won Phi Beta Kappa honors, special honors in the department of economics and Commercial geography and was elected to an honorary fellowship in the latter department. Following his graduation Mr. Whid- den obtained a wide and varied exper- jence in advertising and sales work. He was connected successively with the Standard Oil company, the Sinclair Refining company, and Swift and company. Mr. Whidden is best known, how- ever, for his outstanding work as sales manager and publicity manager of The Central Manufacturing district, the largest privately owned industrial com- munity in the world, with building, factories and warehouses valued at $50,000,000 and unoccupied land upon which structures of several times that value will doubtless be built. Among his other activities Mr. Whidden numbers the managing di- rectorship of the Pershing Head asso- ciation and the office of secretary of the Central Manufacturing District club.
