RED CROSS ROLL CALL During the past week many promi- nent men and women in Chicago and vicinity have been active in the promo- tion of the tenth annual membership roll call of the American Red Cross, which is bidding fair to exceed the number of membership enrollments of the past few years. The roll call is held annually from November 11 to the 25 Many people are still prone to think of the Red Cross in terms of war. As a matter of fact, it is vastly of more consequence to think of it in terms of peace. It is the arm of mercy of the United States government and under government supervision and headed by President Coolidge as national chair- man, is always ready to hold out a helping hand. Tts offices of mercy and understanding are held out to all alike. Calamity challenges Red Cross past year this challenge has been ac- deeds and it has never failed. In the past year this challenge has been ac- cepted with a thoroughness and promptness which has been most gratifying to this country. The number of calls to the American Red Cross for disaster relief has been of greater magupitude than of former years. The records show 51 disasters in the United States this year. The Daughters of the King will have their annual Thanksgiving Pound par- ty at Chase House, 211 South Ashland boulevard, November 20, at 3 o'clock. The monthly meeting of the organiza- tion will be held Monday afternoon, November 22, at 2 o'clock in the Dio- cesan rooms in the Tower building, Chicago. The Rev. Erwin Goddard of La Grange will be the speaker. Do not fail to visit Chicago while the West Point Cadets and Annapolis Midshipmen are there. Two big military days--Friday and Saturday, November 26 and 27--during which time the eyes of the country will be focused on Chicago. On both days, there will be elaborate parades and other spectacular maneuvers, leading up to the Army-Navy Football Game on Saturday after- noon. The largest parade will take place Friday, starting from the boulevard Link Bridge at 2:30 p. m. and marching south to 11th Street, then to Soldier's Field. Following this parade, there will be maneuvers in Soldier's Field--FREE TO THE PUBLIC-- duplicating the maneu- vers that will precede the game on Saturday.
