Devoe Lacquer will change all this, it is said, and Saturday of this week is Devoe Lacquer day in Winnetka, when a demonstration will be con- ducted throughout the day, at the Eckart Hardware company's store, 735 Elm street. Everyone is invited to call and witness the work of a Devoe Lac- quer representative, and to bring small pieces of furniture, and chil- dren's toys which need a bright coat of paint to make them look like new. HOME FROM FLORIDA Mrs. D. W. Poff, 739 Walden road, and her daughter, Ruth, returned Tuesday from a year's stay in Florida. Dr. and Mrs. Poff and their daughter left in October, 1925, and spent several weeks on the east coast before buy- ing a home in Kissimee. Dr. Poff re- turned to Winnetka in March of this year. Before coming back Mrs. Poff sold the attractive tea room which she had taken over in May, and is back in Winnetka to stay. Seventy-five per cent of the ma- chinery used in the entire fruit and vegetable canning industry in the United States is manufactured in Hoopeston, Illinois. Edwin Clark Tells Country Day School About European Zoos and New Chicago Zoo at Riverside "Zooing Through Europe and Amer- ica" is the subject of an illustrated talk given Tuesday at the morning exer- cises at the North Shore Country Day school by Edwin Clark, one of the parents of the school. Mr. Clark is architect for the new Chicago zoo to be built at Riverside, and spent the past summer visiting zoos in European cities collecting ideas for the one be- ing planned for Chicago, which is to be the largest in the world. The For- est Preserve has given 196 acres of land for this project, Mr. Clark ex- plained. He is designing the zoo as far as possible to permit the animals to live in their natural haunts, Most of the enclosures will be in the open air, with- out. bars, made up on three sides by a cliff and with a ditch on the fourth. He showed pictures of European zoos constructed in this manner. The plan, it was explained, will em- brace a large farm on which to raise vegetables for the animals, and there will also be a large feeding equipment, and a hospital in which to place the animals in quaragtine when they first arrive. He showed the school moving pic- tures which he had taken in the zoos in London, Rome, Rotterdam, and St. Louis.
