Herron of the New Trier High school were speakers on the program of a meeting of the Illinois State High School Teachers' association, which was held at the University of Illinois last Friday. A total of about twenty- five members of the New Trier faculty were in attendance and report a most interesting meeting. "Teaching Bookkeeping in Single Periods" was the §ubject of Mr. Her- ron's talk. This is an experiment which he has been conducting at the north shore school and which is in- tended to make it possible for students taking a general course to be able to get it into their schedules and to pro- vide more experience in accounting for those students entering a commercial university. The subject of Mr. Snyder's speech was "The Middle of the Road in Algebra," which represented a dis- cussion of the sometimes too prevalent tendency toward becoming bound up in some faddish way of teaching mathe- matics. It is an Illinois cor- poration and was formed after Mrs. Insull had decided to resume her pro- fessional stage career. It has leased the Studebaker theatre for six years, which will serve as the home for all of Mrs. Insull's productions. J. Clarence Hyde, who has been as- sociated in important executive posi- tions with Klaw and Erlanger, Henry Miller, Henry W. Savage, George C. Tyler, Charles Frohman, and other prominent theatrical producers during the past twenty years, is vice-president and general manager of The Reper- toire Theatre company. Among plays under consideration for production are "The Truth," the bril- liant comedy by Clyde Fitch; "The New Religion" by H. F. Maltby, an English author who has written sev- eral successful plays including "A Tem- porary Gentleman"; "What Might Happen" and "The Right Age to Marry." A play by Alfred Sutro is also under advisement. Several revivals are planned, includ- ing "The First Lady of the Land," an American historical play with Dolly Madison as the central figure, by Charles Nirdlinger. Mrs. Insull desires to emphasize the fact that this is not in any sense a fad movement, nor an effort to up- lift the stage. The purpose is to give that section of the public, that still loves spoken drama, the best that can be obtained in plays and players at popular prices.
