Lytton and Sons--has just completed his final round of in- spection of the new Evanston shop's readiness for the Christmas season. "It looks to me as though not one single thing that any man or young man would like to receive as a gift from his wife, mother, sweetheart, sis- ter or aunt has been overlooked in our preparation. For months we've been studying the tastes of our north shore clientele with the one objective of rounding out our first year in Evans- ton with 100 per cent service to women choosing gifts for men. Each year our buyers go abroad visiting the lead- ing markets of the world in their search for unusual Christmas merchan- dise, and this year they received spe- cific instruments to out do themselves in preparing our Evanston Shop." LEAGUE STUDY STARTS The Winnetka League of Women Voters has organized a study class in preparation for active legislative work during the coming session of the Illi- nois legislature. The opening meeting was held Monday morning in the Camp Fire room of Community House. Fol- lowing the lectures a simple luncheon was served. Those interested in join- ing the group may phone Mrs. John VanderVries at Winnetka 1968, it is announced. Mrs. Herbert R. Head of City Club Tells of Need for Study of Civics "Civics in the City of Chicago," or more concisely, the scope and range of interest of the Woman's City club of Chicago, in the civics of the city, was the subject of an address given by Mrs. B. F. Langworthy, president of the club, before the students of the National Kindergarten and Elementary college last Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Langworthy drew a clever comparison between the woman who saved and scrimped for years to buy a piano, which made a fine ornament for the parlor but which neither she nor her children were ever able to play--and the women of today who have fought and suffered to obtain the vote, are very proud of having it, but have no idea of how to use it. "We often find ourselves beating our heads against a stone wall of ignorance on the part of women in re- gard to civics," said Mrs. Langworthy, "and the club is working to try to make women see the necessity for their own education along these lines." Mrs. Langworthy outlined the work of several of the thirty-two branches or committees of the club, including those on Child Welfare, Public Health, Clean Air, Courts, Foods and Markets, Housing and Zoning, Education, Legis- lature, explaining briefly the reason for the formation of each committee, and the way in which it functions. The address was most interesting and gave the yoting women an idea not only of the need, but of the tremen- dous possibilities which lie before an organization of this kind.
