we ONG November 27, 1926 WINNETKA TALK 23 Open Clinic to Correct Pedal and Spinal Trouble A class for correcting flat feet and for straightening crooked backs among the poor children of Chicago--children whose parents cannot afford a physi- cian and who must face the world for work in their early teens--is soon to be established by Northwestern uni- versity Medical school in the big clinic in the Ward building on the MeKin- lock campus, Chicago. In beginning the class, Miss Zoe Harpster, director of the social service department, will take only the little fellows whose parents are so poorly circumstanced that the ills of the chil- dren may not be corrected by private- ly employed physicians. She also will select boys who must soon start work- ing and who will bring certificates, at- testing their circumstances, from Dr. E. M. Appell, of the Chicago board of education. Once these barriers are taken, the class for corrective treatment will be opened. Miss Harpster already has several youngsters chosen but will not have a sufficient number until early in December. She has been informed by Dr. Appell that Chicago last year sent 18,000 youngsters into the working world and that at least 40 percent of these children were in need of treat- ment of some sort. Because most of the lads come from districts somewhat adjacent to the Northwestern down- town campus, Dr. Appell will send nearly all of the ailing boys to the McKinlock campus dispensary for treatment. Miss Miriam Camp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N. H. Camp, 492 South ave- nue, a graduate of Simmons college in Boston, was included in the list of Glencoe girls who attended the Army- Navy ball at the Drake. Christian Science Churches "Soul and Body" was the subject of the Lesson-Sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, Sunday, November 21. The Golden Text was from Psalms 34:22, "The Lord redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate." Among the citations which comprised the lesson-sermon was the following from the Bible: "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together" (Romans 8:14, 16, 17). The lesson-sermon also included the following passages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "Even though you aver that the material senses are indispens- able to man's existence or entity, you must change the human concept of life, and must at length know yourself spiritually and scientifically. The evi- dence of the existence of Spirit, Soul, is palpable only to spiritual sense, and is not apparent to the material senses, which cognize only that which is the opposite of Spirit" (p. 359).
