> $s December 4, 1926 WINNETKA TALK Plan Big Hospital for Convalescents in Glenview Area Work, it is said, will start the first of the year on Glenview lodge, a new convalescent home or health sanitari- um, which it is planned to erect in Glenview, on Wagner road, between Glenview road and Lake avenue. The site comprises twenty-seven acres, part of which is of virgin timber, purchased recently, it is said at $4,000 per acre, and it is stated that the investment, on completion of the home, will be about $1,225,000. The plan is to complete the structure in August, 1927. The establishment is to be erected by a group of Chicago physicians and business men. The board of directors consists of five and there will be a medical advisory staff of twenty-five. Gilbert Fizt-Patrick, head of the Ma- sonic hospital will be on the advisory staff and Lorin W. Coleman, treasurer of Passavant hospital, will be treas- urer of Glenview. The number of hospital beds in the Chicago district is far inadequate to meet the present demand, it is said. Chieago' bed-shortage has been put at 5000. It is pointed omt that if con- valescing patients can be transferred to an institution more suitable for a speedy recovery than the hospital, ex- tra hospital beds would then be avail- able for those whose cases require the personal attention of the physician. The home is to be of old English architecture, of the Tudor period, adapted to the present day conditions. The structure is to be in the form of an H, with one wing for men and one for women. The basement will contain a beauty parlor, tailor shop, barber shop, gym- nasium, large swimming pool, hot and cold showers, and Turkish, Russian, Swedish and electric baths. There will be sun bath facilities. On three of the floors will be living rooms. On the fourth floor will be an indoor golf course, and vocational rooms. EST. 850 CHICAGO Plan Medical Infirmary for Men at Northwestern Northwestern university men on the Evanston campus next year will be afforded the facilities of a complete medical infirmary, according to an an- nouncement by President Walter Dill Scott. The executive committee of the board of trustees has passed favorably upon the plan, which includes the ap- pointment of a year-around university physician for men, the conversion of a dormitory building on Sheridan road near University place into an infirmary to accommodate about twenty pa- tients, and the supervision of the health of both men and women at North- western to rest with a special com- mittee, to be made up as follows: Dean Irving S. Cutter, head of the medical school; James Armstrong, dean of men; Winifred G. Richardson, dean of women ; Delton T. Howard, director of personnel; K. I. Wilson, director of physical education, and the commis- sioner of health of the city of Evans- ton. President Scott pointed out that the women's infirmary already is estab- lished and operating but that the Ev- anston campus has lacked a special infirmary for men. The afflicted stu- dents have heretofore been sent to local hospitals and also have been looked after by parents who have been summoned to them in critical cases.
