December 4, 1926 WINNETKA TALK Women Voters Meet (From Headquarters, Winnetka League of Women Voters) The question of women serving on juries has aroused considerable inter- est. The statute, prescribing the prep- aration of jury lists in countries hav- ing jury commissioners, says they shall include "all electors between the ages of 21 and 60." Women want to serve on juries, thereby doing their share to give pro- tection and insuring fair play to their fellow-citizens involved in difficulties requiring court consideration. The community needs the opinion of both men and women in administration of justice. The exclusion of all individuals of a class from jury service because they belong to that class, has been declared by the United States Supreme court to injure and make less valuable the pro- tection that a jury trial should afford to them when they appear as contes- tants in the courts. Charles M. Thompson, Judge, Illinois Appellate Court, First District, Chi- cago, says, "as a matter of public pol- icy, I think it would be a good thing to have women as well as men subject to jury service." "I can see no reason whatever why they should not serve," states Freder- ick A. Brown, former president of the Illinois, Bar association. "I not only believe it is right, but their duty as well--I would consider the service of women on jury cases and Grand Juries as a public benefit." Mrs. Arthur M. Barrett, 530 Cherry street, has as her guest for the week- end. Miss Ella McDonald of Pasadena, who is returning to California after three years spent in Europe. Drivers Are Minute Men The Black 8 White Cab driv- er is a useful and mighty active citi- zen. He is out in all sorts of weather. He is at the beck and call of everybody. He knows Winnetka better than anybody else and covers it from end to end. When he answers a call, he never knows what he is going to face or in what isolated district he may have to go. But he goes, just the same. Wherever you want to go, he goes. When the mercury is at zero, or a blizzard is raging, he keeps on going! He can't drop into some snug re- treat and get warm, like you can. He is work- ing for a systematic transportation institution, not just a cab company. He never calls the office and says he can't stand the weather. He isn't a quitter or a whiner. He is a good deal of a Man. He is a public guide and a public pro- tector. We know what kind of a soldier he is. We have seen him tested on countless oc- casions and we swear by him. BLACK & WHITE CAB CO. Phones Winnetka 72-73-74 7 Passenger Sedan for Hire
