I am especially interested in the juxta- position of the two paragraphs, the first of which tells of Mrs. De Windt's gift of $1,000 to the Library and the second of which states "The Library ASE fete was transferred to the pres- ent quarters." It would seem that it would have been well had Mr. Hadley before writ- ing his history perused the bronze tablet on the wall of the "present quarters," and the inclusion and omis- sions in Mr. Hadley's history makes me rejoice that those who placed that tablet had the good sense to adopt its interesting and, under the circum- stances, somewhat peculiar phrase- ology. Yours very truly, Wm. Bross Lloyd BRIDGE FOR BRIDE Mrs. Mark Cresap, 239 Essex road, Kenilworth and her daughter, Mrs. Samuel Comly, will entertain at a bridge party for young people Wednes- day, December 15, in honor of Miss Dorothea -Schmedtgen of Wilmette, who is to be married on January 8. December 11, 1926 SUNDAY CLUB TO HEAR DR. S. PARKES CADMAN One of Greatest Preachers of Day Will Speak Sunday on "Mission of the Republic" One of the big events in the history of the Wilmette Sunday Evening club will be on Sunday, December 12, when Dr. S. Parkes Cadman of Brooklyn, one of the greatest preachers of the day, will speak on the subject, "The Mission of the Republic." Madam Edith Bideau Normelli will be the soloist for the afternoon. Dr. Cadman is at the top of his pow- ers as a thinker, an author, and a speaker. His three pastorates in New York city cover a space of thirty years. His pulpit and platform work place him in the foremost ranks of the lead- ers of today. During the past few weeks, Dr. Cad- man has gained prominence through his utterances in behalf of a world plan to establish lasting and universal peace. Resembles Henry Ward Beecher Dr. Cadman has often been com- pared to Henry Ward Beecher. As preacher, lecturer, and a man, his life is said to resemble that of the famous man of an earlier generation. Dr. Cad- man is now pastor of one of the larg- est churches in Brooklyn, N. Y. Dr. Cadman's lectures are enlivened by occasional flashes of wit and humor which provoke laughter and at the same time are full of thought, and leave the audience inspirational ideas. Dr. Cadman received his training at the Wesleyan college, Richmond, Lon- don, and began his career in the United States in 1890. H is well known and admired in Great Britain, Canada, Australia and South Africa, as he is in the United States. Well Known as Author The strenuous duties of his large parish do not permit him to give much time to his lecture work, so that the community which has the privilege of hearing this famous speaker is indeed fortunate. His present church and parish in Brooklyn are the centers of a ministry unsurpassed for intellectual range and spiritual insight. His books have received the warm- est appreciation from scientific and literary critics. His utterances from the platform have been characterized as those of a Christian statesman. Leading magazines of the nation have published articles by Dr. Cadman and his work, attracted by the unusual suc- cess of his ministry. Hugh Foresman, 515 Essex road, left Kenilworth Wednesday, December 8, for a ten days' business trip to Mon- tana.
