, pith rt ms ---- of p-------- Wit February 5, 1927 WINNETKA TALK CUT OUT "S" TURN Jog in Glenview Road to Be Elimin- ated by Straight Cut West From Waukegan Road When road improvement plans now underway at the intersection of Glen- view and Waukegan roads are com- pleted, motorists west bound from Wil- mette to Milwaukee avenue, may pro- ceed directly west through Glenview without being compelled to make the short left hand turn and right hand turn at Waukegan road. Glenview road is to be extended straight through westward at a point where it now enters Waukegan road. A new bridge will span the river to make this new connection and the present bridge on Waukegan road, a short distance south of where view road enters Waukegan road is to be rebuilt and made much wider, it is said. Waukegan road also is to be made wider at this point. The old Blue Heron road house building which stood on the west side of Waukegan road, directly in front of the intersection and which has been purchased by Charles F. Speed, of the Evanston street railway company, has been cut in two, and one-half of the building moved to the north and the other half to the south side of what will be the extended portion of Glen- view road. These two buildings Mr. Speed is converting into store spaces. According to Mr. Speed the pur- chase of this building and the alter- ations which are now going on will in no way affect the extension of the Ev- anston surface lines into the village, although no definite announcement has been made as to where the line will be located. Mr. and Mrs. James F. Porter of Hubbard Woods left a week ago for a month's cruise to the West Indies. Glen- | Haydn Choral Group to Aid Chicago Charities Haydn Owens, director, and officers of the Haydn Choral society have made announcement of plans to extend the society's civic activities in many di- rections: to bring choral music before clubs and community audiences and at the same time to increase the organi- zation's active and associate member- ship. Charitable institutions too will be benefitted by the choral concerts, be- ginning with the one scheduled for March 15 in Orchestra hall when pro- ceeds from a block of seats will be set aside for a Chicago charity. "Acis and Galatea," a Handel work not heard for nearly thirty years, is to be revived for the March program. It is one of the shorter and lesser known works of Handel and said to contain some of his most beautiful music. A new work by William Lester, writ- ten for and dedicated to the society, will have its first presentation at this concert. It is a cantata, "The Land of Souls," taken from an old Indian legend. 'Alma Peterson, soprano, Ern- est Davis, tenor, and Rollin Pease, bass, will be the soloists. The society has made a number of American tours and is arranging now for its first European tour to start Tuly 1, for five weeks' concertizing in England, France, Scotland and Wales.
