BUILD SCOUT CABIN Through. the efforts of County Com- missioner Oscar W. Schmidt of Wil- mette, an appropriation has been made for the erection of a Log cabin in the Forest Preserve, west of Glencoe, for troops of the North Shore Boy Scout area for week-end camping trips. A dedication will be held for the cabin when completed. It is hoped that it will be ready for use by March 1. Illinois electric light and power com- panies gained more than 100,000 new customers during 1926. NAMED RAIL DIRECTOR John R.. Thompson, Jr., has been elected a director on the board of the Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad company to succeed his fath- er, who has been active in the direction of the line for many years. Mr. Thompson thus is taking another step in actively assuming management of the family interests. He has been president of the John R. Thompson company for the past two years. Traveler's Rest, Peoria's first hotel, and one of the first in Illinois, was built in 1825. The year 1926 saw a marked addition made to the equipment of the North Shore Line. More than $800,000 was spent for new cars. The occasion was the celebration of John Thomas Bell's birthday, Mr. Bell being the son of Mrs. Lewis A.
