The nineteenth North Shore Music Festival will take place from May 23 to 28, inclusive, the seats for the series of concerts ranging from $5 to $16, ac- cording to location. There are to be five concerts this season, instead of the customary six. The assisting artists who will appear as soloists are all of the first rank and have proved their popularity. They form an imposing array, as follows: sopranos, Florence Austral, Mary Lew- A is and Louise Loring; contraltos, Doris Doe and Sophie Braslau; tenors, Ed- ward Johnson and Paul Althouse; baritones, Horace Stevens and Law- rence Tibbett; pianist, Mischa Levit- ski. The selections include one outstand- wr . . . | 1 ing novelty that will be certain to attract great interest. This is the "Sea Symphony," by Vaughan Wil- | liams, an English composer who is I rapidly coming to the front because of the beauty and power of his composi- tions. The score of the symphony calls for two vocal soloists in addition to the full orchestra. The assisting art- ists will be Florence Austral, soprano, and Horace Stevens, baritone. A strong array of musical forces has been assembled under the supervision of Peter Christian Lutkin, musical di- rector. These will include the Chicago Symphony orchestra, with Frederick stock conducting, the regular chorus of 600, a special chorus of 1,500 voices, of which John W. Beattie is conductor and the a cappella choir. The organ will also be heard. The concerts have been arranged as follows : . May 23. "Elijah" which will give an opportunity to hear Horace Stevens, baritone, who is one of the greatest exponents of the part of Elijah who has ever appeared on the concert stage. Louise Loring, soprano; Doris Doe, contralto; Paul Althouse, tenor, the regular chorus, a cappella choir and orchestra also will be heard. May 24. First half, Beethoven pro- gram, with Mischa Levitski, pianist, as soloist. Second half, Edward Johnson, the popular tenor, with orchestra. May 26 First half, Florence Austral, soprano, with orchestra. Second half, "Sea Symphony," with Miss Austral and Horace Stevens, baritone, as as- sisting artists. May 28. The sixth session of the course will be held at the same place, Monday, Febru- ary 28. Mr. and Mrs. Mordie A.
