March 12, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 11 "TWAS A FINE NIGHT BUT A SMALL CROWD Indian Hill Officers Disappointed | | pointed in the attendance, for still] | more extensive preparations had been | at Turnout for Discussion and Program The meeting of the Indian Hill Im- provement Monday night was a success in every way ex- cept in the matter of attendance, and that important feature of community activity for which the association is organized was sadly lacking. There was an excellent entertain- ment, and there were also important matters to be discussed in which every association last citizen of the community is vitally in- terested, and in which they were given | this opportunity to participate. Merritt Lum talked on the approach- ing Village caucus, explaining just how | the Winnetka caucus functions. The "No Man's Land" bond issue] subject was again up for discussion. The Association, at a former meeting | had appointed a committee comprising | H. R. Corbett, Ralph Kraetsch and S. D. Levings to investigate and report on the matter. The committee's report was received Monday evening, and covered the subject in every detail. The officers of the association feel, that, if for no other reason than to show their interest in this question which is of vital importance to the entire township, the membership should have been out in numbers to hear the sum- mary of the facts as the committee found them. This much, from a business point of view. Topsy Turvy Men There The officers were further disap- made in the way of entertainment. It is seldom that a civic organization is permitted the opportunity to have as its guests, and entertainers, such well known men as Russell Pratt and Ran- som Sherman, from radio station WMAQ. Russell Pratt is the "Topsy Turvy Time Man." Their program Monday evening was one of the most enjoyable the association has arranged this year, and those who missed it are said to have overlooked something really worthwhile. These men, as Secretary William S. Nordberg, point out, gave their services gratuitously. The association, as Mr. Nordberg further emphasizes, is not being con- ducted solely for entertainment, al- though when that is made a feature of the meetings, only first-class able talent is procured. But the real worth of the association, to the community, he emphasizes, is a regular and en- thusiastic attendance of members, that a discussion and solution of the many problems which are constantly coming before a growing community like Win- netka may be effectively accomplished.
