46 WINNETKA TALK March 12, 1927 Kenilworth Cagers Win One, Drop Two Week-End Tilts Kenilworth cagers dropped two games and won one last Saturday night in the first of the series of basketball games being played under the auspices of the North Shore grammar school league, composed of teams from Ev- anston, Wilmette and Kenitworth. The Kenilworth lightweights proved to be the only real contenders for honors among the local! teams and downed the Boltwood quintet by a score of 13 to 6. Saxton was the outstanding Kenil- worth player in the game, netting sev- eral of the winner's baskets. Bolt- wood won the middleweight contest on an 18 to 6 score'and the heavyweight tilt by 13 points to Kenilworth's 4. Charles Howe acted as referee for all three games which were played in the Kenilworth Community gymnasium. TAKEN BY DEATH Mrs. Ada Dalzell Sweet, bottsford road, Kenilworth, passed away Wednesday, March 2, at her home. The group is under the di- rection of John G. Gunn. Of especial interest is the announce- ment that Rollin Pease, well known baritone, will be the assisting soloist at the concert. Features of the evening's entertain- ment will be the appearance of Jimmy Gunn, Scotch comedian, assisted in a sketch by Lena McNeil and Hortense Kitch, dancers. Winnetka Accident Thwarts Engineer's Hope for Record Fate dealt a cruel blow to Fred Mal- bon, engineer on the Chicago & North- western train No. 210, the Milwaukee- Chicago limited which killed Mrs. Charles Wilbur Hess, of Evanston, at the Elm street crossing in Winntka, Saturday afternoon. Mr. Malbon has ben pulling a train on the Northwestern for thirty-five years, and will retire the first of next month. This was the first person killed by a train which he was driving, throughout this long service, a record which he had hoped to terminate with- out this regrettable, though unavoid- able exception. ANNOUNCE CARD PARTY The North Shore Soccer club an- nounces a bunco and card party to be held at Community House, Win- netka, Saturday evening, March 12, at 8 o'clock. Refreshments are to be served. All members and friends of the club have been urged to attend this social gathering. oy Scouts Each month the troops of the North Shore area rate themselves on their progress and strength. These reports are gone over by a committee and the troop scoring the highest is awarded the inter-troop efficiency award, an at- tractive leather shield. The first name to be engraved on this perpetual shield, is that of Troop 13 of Kenil- worth which is doing exceptionally fine work under the leadership of Scout- master Robert Townley and S. P. L. Arthus MclIntosch. At the March Junior officers' con- ference, more than 100 older scouts, junior leaders in their respective troops, will hear Bob Becker, famous for his "Woods and Waters" in the Chicago Tribune. Six Scouts from each of our local troops are eligible to attend this conference which will be held Saturday, March 12, from 9:30 to 12 at the Lake Bluff school. A luncheon will follow. Scout William McAllen of Glencoe is in charge of the program committee and Alvin Bar- tholamew of Wilmette is general chair- man. On the last Friday of each month an open Scoutcraft rally is held in one town of the North Shore area, at which rally any troop that cares to, may enter teams to compete. The March rally will be held in Highland Park Friday, March 25, at 7:30 p. m. Robert Anspach, is the host chair- man. The Scout troops of Wilmette are planning a joint celebration of Ar- bor Day, on Saturday afternoon, April 9. The celebration includes a tree- planting ceremony and other activities Twenty-two years of suc- cessful professional service. Personally recommended by Chas. A. Stevens of Chicago and a host of others whom we have served on the north shore. We personally attend all calls, rendering the most careful, courteous and con- scientious service.
