VY (Y March 19, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 45 Camp Fire Sparks Winnetka Camp Fire Girls were doubly honored Wednesday afternoon, March 16, when Miss Janet McKellar, from National Camp Fire headquar- ters, and Mrs. William T. Grable, ex- ecutive of Chicago Camp Fire Girls, paid them a visit. Guardians and members of the Camp Fire council had the pleasure of a so- cial half-hour with them before the general meeting with the girls. : Miss McKellar, who is one of the field executives of the organization, and one who knows Camp Fire all over this country, said that Camp Fire was making great strides everywhere, not because it was program handed out to the girls, but, largely because the girls, themselves, loved it and wanted it. The program is one that has a very strong appeal to girlhood, and makes, not only for fun and friendliness, but for service for others. Miss McKellar's charming personal- ity and her inspirational talk made the girls unwilling to let her go at the end of the hour, and they crowded around her, eager for more in regard to Camp Fire. She was much inter- ested in the ceremonial gowns of some of the girls that were on exhibition, and asked that the gown of Mrs. Vivian Eisenbrand be sent to national headquarters for exhibition, as it was worthy of a national Camp Fire honor. Mrs. Grable was warmly greeted by the girls when she brought a greeting from Chicago headquarters. In speak- ing of the work of the organization, there, she said it now numbers over six thousand girls, and has had a phen- ominal growth in the last three years. It was a delight to the girls to hear her, and she spoke in praise of the work Winnetka is doing. Miss McKellar is in Chicago for a few days, giving a course for Camp Fire Guardians at the University of Chicago, and also at Northwestern uni- versity. It was an afternoon of inspiration and delight to the Camp Fire Girls, and one they will not soon forget. Cer- mak, president of the Cook County board. Among these are Floyd L. Bateman, Abel Davis, Walter T. Fisher, Robert Kingery, Frank D. Loomis, Axel Lonn- quist, E. J. McArdle, Jr., Frederick W. Penfield, James Simpson, Shelby M. Singl eton, Oscar W. Schmidt, and John N. Van derVries.
