March 26, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 7 Senior Assembly Tryouts Held at New Trier Monday The last of the tryouts for the New Trier Senior Assembly were held after school, Monday, March 21. There were fourteen acts in all and from these seven were chosen; the seven acts are to constitute the vaudeville. The exact nature of the play re- mains a mystery and will not be dis- closed until the 7th of April. The assembly is to be given on that date during the eighth period. Because the students going on the Washington trip will not be required to stay at school all day on April 8th, the date of the assembly was changed to the 7th. The orchestra is a very important part of the production and it is re- hearsing three times a week. The personnel of the orchestra is as fol- lows: Lois Hammet, accompanist; Tom Gillet, saxophone; Dan Bull, drum; Vernon Carlstrand, French horn; Homer Flentye, cornet; Bob Martin, clarinet; David Boyington, bass horn; and Fred Waidner, saxo- phone. Margaret Stults is chairman of the assembly, and Dan Bull is director of the orchestra. The stage properties, costumes, and scenery, will be under the direction of Gordon Cumberland and Ed Ryerson. ST. ELISABETH SERVICES The services for Sunday, March 27, at the Church of St. Elisabeth, begin with the 8 o'clock Early Celebration, followed by the church school at 9:30, and the Litany-Ante-Communion serv- ice and sermon at 11 o'clock. Mrs. Samuel Comely of Evanston entertained the North Shore Vassar club on Monday at the home of her mother, Mrs. Mark W. Cresap, 239 Essex road, Kenilworth. Frank Branch Riley to Speak at Sunday Club Frank Branch Riley, of Portland, Ore., will be the speaker at the Wil- mette Sunday Evening club March 27, his subject being "The Lure of the Great Northwest." The lecture, will be illustrated by stereopticon slides. Mr. Riley appeared before the Sunday Evening club three years ago when the audience overtaxed the capacity of the Congregational church auditorium. He is to speak before the Union League club of Chicago Thursday evening, March 24, upon the occasion of annual "Ladies' Night" at that famous or- ganization. Burton Thatcher is to be the soloist next Sunday evening. Girls' Basketball Ends a Successful Year The Junior girls, champions of girl's basketball tournament, held re- cently at New Trier High school, have played the cleanest and fastest games of any of the girl's teams. An esti- mate of about 120 girls took part in the tournament and nearly 200 played up to the time of the tournament. Each class played six games--making 24 games in all. With the exception of challenges made among advisor groups, the Basketball Season ends this week. Although their teams have not won all theirl games against North Shore, they have been very successful. The first team of freshmen won their game, but the midget team lost by one point. The Seniors played a very fast game against North Shore's varsity team, and won by several points. The Junior game was played by champions of both schools.
