Sats SNA A A ------ 34 WINNETKA TALK March 26, 1927 North Shore Women Interested in Hospital Benefit Name Patronesses for Easter Monday Luncheon, Bridge By JEAN TEN BROECK Swinging into step with the benefits of early spring is the luncheon and bridge to be given April 18, for the St. Francis hospital. The affair will be given in the new Georgian hotel on the corner of Hinman avenue and Davis street, Evanston. Luncheon will be served at 1 with the games of pivot bridge, bunco and five-hundred com- mencing at 2. The patroness list will include presidents of all catholic clubs along the north shore and wives of the doctors composing the staff at St. Francis hospital, in addition to a group of other north shore women. Mrs. Frank Jones, 1136 Central ave- nue, Wilmette, is chairman of the affair, and she, together with Mrs. Carl Bunte of Wilmette, and Mrs. N. P. Anderson and Mrs. A. L.. X Last Subscription Dance The last of the series of subscription dances given for members of the Woman's club of Wilmette and their friends is te be Saturday evening, April 2, at the clubhouse. These de- lightful affairs have been given dur- ing the winter season for the benefit of the club building fund. They have been well attended, and have been the source of much pleasure to Wilmette society. North Shore Town Give Arden Shore Reunions Winnetka, Kenilworth, and Evans- ton are the three villages who gave to about one hundred boys of the Arden Shore Winter camp their annual re- union dinner last evening at Gads Hill settlement. Members of the Arden Shore association in these towns do- nated the food and served the boys. Mrs. Marcus D. Richards of Win- netka, Mrs. Mark Cresap of Kenil- worth, and Mrs. Ernest Palmer, Mrs. Richard Gambrill, Jr., and Miss Ellen Dryden of Evanston yere those in charge of the arrangements. Villages further north are in charge of the reunion dinner to be served girls of the Summer camp Sunday at Arden Shore. Winnetka Girls Are Among Most Beautiful at Vassar In making the annual selection of twenty-two of the most beautiful girls in the sophomore class at Vassar col- lege who will carry the daisy chain at class day in June, two Winnetka girls have been chosen. Mary Ott, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Nash Ott of 17 Indian Hill road, and a granddaughter of the late James B. Forgan, and Cynthia Kohlsaat, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Christian Kohlsaat of 777 Bryant avenue, are among those receiving the beauty laurels which have been equally di- vided this season between blonde and brunette. Romance of T heatre Guild Announcement has been made of a small wedding that is of north shore interest in that both bride and groom have taken active part in North Shore Theatre guild plays, and the latter was the guild's business manager last sea- son. Monday afternoon Miss Virginia FitzHugh, daughter of Mr..and Mrs. Carter H. FitzHugh of Lake Forest, and Melvin P. Wamboldt were married in only the presence of their immediate families, with the Rev. Herbert W. Prince of the Lake Forest Episcopal church officiating. The bride was at- tired in an afternoon dress. There were no attendants. Mr. and Mrs. Wamboldt are to make their home in Pasadena. Engaged The engagement of Miss Norma Fiske of Sante Fe, N. Mex., to Richard Day of Omaha, Neb., was announced at an Alpha Phi cozy on Friday, March 18. Miss Fiske is the niece of Mrs. H. E. Holdoway of 723 Forest avenue, Wilmette. Miss Fiske was graduated in 1926 from Northwestern Spiversity. and is a member of Alpha i. Artists to Exhibit Resident and former resident artists and art students of Wilmette are in- vited to contribute to the annual ex- hibition of Wilmette art held by the Woman's club of Wilmette, the com- mittee in charge announces. The ex- hibit will be hung at the Woman's club April 29, 30, and May 1. The Wilmette center of the Infant Welfare society of Chicago held an all-day sewing meeting Thursday, March 24, at the home of Mrs. T. B. Potter, 607 Forest avenue. Marian Dawes to Marty in Christ Church April 30 Christ church on the top of the hill in Winnetka has been chosen by Miss Marian Dawes as the setting in which she will become the bride of Gordon Butler Bilderback, son of Mr. and Mrs. I. M. Bilderback of Champaign. The service will be read at 4:30 o'clock, Saturday, April 30, with Dr. Douglas Cornell of the Glencoe Union church officiating, assisted by the Rev. E. Ashley Gerhard. The reception will be held at the home of Miss Dawes' parents, Mr. and Mrs. William R. Dawes of 187 Hazel avenue, Glencoe. The wedding party will consist of the matron of honor, the bride's sis- ter, Mrs. W. Hamilton Walter of Glencoe: the bridesmaids, Miss Jean Dawes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Dawes of Evanston, and Miss Eloise Hazard of Rochester, N. Y.; Byron Bilderback of Danville, Ill, who will serve as his brother's best man; and the ushers, Burnham Harris, Frank Robeson, Jr., Stanley Kaufman of Champaign, Angus MacLean of St. Louis, Robert O. Among the affairs for Miss Dawes prior to her wedding are the kitchen shower given Wednesday by Miss Jean Dawes of Evanston and the small dinner party for the bridal party given this evening by Mr. and Mrs. Neil Dawes of Winnetka. Lectures at Garden Club "Gardens in the Spring" was the topic Mrs. Harry Barnum of 735 Wal- den road, chose for her lecture before members of the Winnetka Garden club Thursday of this week. Mrs. Barnum has been a resident of Winnetka for many years. From her wide experi- ence both at home and in the South, where she has lectured and gardened extensively, Mrs. Barnum had much of value to impart to her audience. She is leaving today on a short pro- fessional trip to New Orleans, Mem- phis, and Little Rock. Speak at League Luncheon The luncheon and meeting of the Kenilworth League of Women Voters on Friday of last week was attended by sixty women. The program of the day was presented by Miss Edith Rockwood, secretary of the Illinois League of Women Voters, and by Mrs. E. F. Snydacker of Kenilworth. The latter gave a talk on the institute of government held the early part of this month at Northwestern university. Bake Sale Tomorrow The North End circle of the Congre- gational church will meet on Monday, March 28, at the home of Mrs. Freder- ick M. Bowes, 714 Ashland avenue, Wil- mette. Luncheon will be served at 12:30 o'clock. The circle is holding a bakery sale tomorrow at Van Deusen's, start- ing at 10 o'clock. Two Day Rummage Sale The Ladies' Aid society of the Wil- mette Parish Methodist church will hold a rummage sale on Thursday and Friday, April 7 and 8, at the Economy shop, 1147 Greenleaf avenue, Wilmette. The sale will be held all day both days. 4
