Hecht, vice-president in charge of operation for the Public Service Company of Northern Illinois, was elected president of the Illinois Electric association during that organ- ization's annual convention in Spring- field, March 17 and 18. Mr. Hecht, who has been an official of the Public Service company since 1923, was graduated from the Massa- chusetts Institute of Technology in 1904. Shortly thereafter he became Construction Engineer for the North Shore Electric company, the principal predecessor of the Public Service company. After numerous promotions to engineering positions of increasing responsibility, Mr. Hecht in 1915 be- came superintendent of electrical pro- duction and in 1921, assistant to the vice-president in charge of operation. SENIORS CARRY CANES Seniors at Northwestern university assumed their annual spring swagger and pomp this week as they began to carry the senior canes, a traditional privilege granted only to the upper- classmen. Underclassmen who might be so bold as to carry a cane will be given the ancient punishment of a toss in the lake. Plans are also under way for the annual freshman cap burning at which the first vear students will doff their green headgear for the last time. Tuberculosis Subjects The Chicago Tuberculosis Institute has resumed its series of Wednesday morning radio talks on tuberculosis and kindred health subjects. These are to be given over WGN by courtesy {of the Chicago Tribune every Wed- nesday morning at 10 o'clock. Dr. Wilson Ruffin Abbott, tuberculosis specialist of Chicago, Dr. E. F. Troy, chief of the dispensary department of the Municipal Tuberculosis sanitarium, and Dr. Clarence I. Wheaton of Chi- cago have already spoken. GIRLS' CLUB DANCE A matinee dance, sponsored by the Girls' club, will be given on Thursday, March 31 at 3:15 o'clock in the mess- hall, and everyone of the 1,469 New Trier students is cordially invited. Scouts to Have Part in Keeping Town Beautiful Someone has said that "boys 'are more interested in doing good than they are in being good." At least the Scouts of Wilmette are interested in "applied citizenship," and are demon- strating this interest in helping to make their village more attractive. Scouts learn how to do many things. But most of all they enjoy practicing the things they learn: The Scouts of the seven local Scout troops, under the leadership of their junior officers, are setting out to lend their influence in making their village more attractive. They are particular- ly interested in protecting lawns and shrubbery, in making alleys and back yards more attractive. Scouts are speaking at school assemblies, and be- fore clubs, telling about their interest in helping to beautify their village. !
