These classes have been conducted for five months by Miss Livia Young- quist, Miss Millicent Anderson and Miss Mabel Ducker of the Winnetka Public Schools' teaching staff. The groups have met each Monday and Tuesday evenings in Community House, and have enrolled some fifty or more members. The occasion, Tuesday evening, was an interesting and happy one, and marked the close of a successful sea- son's work. W. F. Davies Di- rector of Community House, brought a greeting to the students. He dwelt upon the value of attitudes, bringing out that we get out of life in propor- tion as we put ourselves into it, and that those coming from other coun- tries have much to give of the best from their own countries to help make this country better. His remarks brought enthusiastic response. Mr. Carleton Washburne, Superintendent of Winnetka Public Schools, praised the work of both teachers and pupils, and expressed the hope that this "Commencement" would be for them but a beginning of further work in their English studies and Americaniza- tion work. He awarded certificates for work satisfactorily accomplished, to the following: Gertrude Koestina, Emma Nelson, Mabel Turnquist, Anna Chapman, Morris G. Lindher, Charlotte Winters, Einar Ellman, Martin Lagerquist, Lyli Karell, Anton Sward, Helen Neilson, Ingeborg Norman, Marcel Desgraz, Signe Limback, Ingrid Swan- berg, Halfred Halvorsen, Sarah Don- aldsen, Karl Heleen, Margrat Wag- ner, Minnie Moeller, Martha Henk, Alma Scharbau, Swea Swenson, Helen Gluppe. After the singing of "America" by the school, a social hour followed with refreshments. The young people then decided not to disband, but to form a club, and continue to meet once a week, and in this way become better acquainted, and have opportunity to learn more American songs, poetry, stories, etc., as well as to have a pleas- ant social time. The club will be known as "The Good Luck" Club and will meet each Monday evening in the Camp Fire Room. The following of- ficers were elected: President, Marcel Desgraz; Secretary, Mabel Turnquist; treasurer, Anton Sward. The first meeting will be Monday evening, April 4, when a program is planned from talent in the group.
