60 WINNETKA TALK April 23, 1927 TRIM HATS FOR SALE Mrs. Robert McKisson, 490 Haw- thorn lane, is opening her home on Wednesday, April 27, at 10:30 o'clock, to the group interested in assisting the Woman's society in work for the White Elephant sale. The usual sew- ing will be dispensed with and the day will be spent trimming hats for the sale. Everyone interested in the work Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Olson of 1000 Vine street arrived home Wednesday after three months in California. Mrs. W. Ogden Coleman of 471 Hill street will return from California the latter part of next week with her chil- dren and their nurse. They have been out there for two months. ---- Mrs. A. G. Mem- bers of the club, who are alumni of the Massachusetts Institute of Tech- nology at Boston, and their families, and prospective students of the school, attended the dance. T. M. Lothrop of Glencoe is presi- dent of the club. Among the pa- tronesses were Mrs. T. M. Lothrop of Glencoe, Mrs. Dean Hinman, and Mrs. R. D. Sampson of Evanston. The club entertains at a dance every year. Mrs. Maurice Leigh of 513 Walnut street and her two children are ex- pected home the middle of next week from Biloxi, where they have spent the winter. aC Mrs. W. H. Bills of Bills Realty, Inc. re- ports three sales of half-acre lawns in Indian Hill Estates during the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Fred W. Shand of 1062 Cherry street, Winnetka, have purchased a lawn on Blackhawk Road, which is heavily wooded with old oaks, its dimensions being 81 by 236. Mr. and Mrs. Shand plan building a large English home within the next year. The sale was consummated by Mr. Gerald Wicke of Bills Realty, Inc. Dr. and Mrs. Robert H. Henderson of 721 Prairie avenue earlier purchased another fine property in Indian Hill Estates on Blackhawk immediately adjoining the nine room English resi- dence being completed by Bills Bros., Inc. at the southwest corner of Black- hawk and Locust Roads. M. L. Olson, Sales Manager of Indian Hill Estates, consummated the sale. Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Crom of 1062 Linden avenue, Wilmette, have pur- chased a half-acre on Mohawk Road on which they contemplate building in the near future. This sale was made by Mr. M. L. Olson. O. E. S. Holds Stated Meeting Monday Evening The regular stated meeting of the Winnetka chapter, Order of Eastern Star will take place Monday evening, April 25, with a short business session at 8 o'clock, followed by a card party at 8:30. The committee hopes that all members and friends will attend and make this affair a real success. Refresh- ments will be served and a prize given for each table. Mrs. Irving Belote, Winnetka 561-J, or Mrs. George T. Mullen, Glencoe 667, are in charge of the ticket sale. ANNOUNCES MARRIAGE Mrs. Sarah Foy of 474 Chestnut street, Winnetka, announces the mar- riage "of her. daughter, Annie R., to McBrindle of Toronto, Canada. The Rev. F. J. Haarth read the -sérvice at Sacred Heart Rectory on April 19. Miss Mima Harrwood was bridesmaid and George Mullin was groomsman.' TUESDAY MEETINGS Plans for spending the money now in the treasury will be discussed when the Girls' Friendship circle meets Tusday night in Community House. There will be no more gym classes until fall, although the club meetings are still held Tuesday evenings. Mr. and Mrs. George W. Blossom, who returned two weeks ago from Cal- ifornia, have sold their house at 955 Green Bay road and have taken a house at Lake Forest for six months. They will sail May 21, for a short European trip. - Their son and dauch- ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Blos- som of Chicago. will occupy the Lake Forest house while they are gone and will be their guests for the remainder of the summer after their return. Legionnaires Choose "Prize Peach," Best Dancers, at Frolic Miss Marian Cook, of 1017 Green- leaf avenue, Wilmette, was the for- tunate young woman to be selected by the judges as the "Legion Peach," or most beautiful girl present, at the "Le- gion Frolic," held Monday evening at the Winnetka Woman's club, under the auspices of the Winnetka Legion Post. There were about 230 legion- naires and their friends present, and all were agreed that it was a most enjoyable affair. The orchestra, with Wally Dehm- low and Ray Loco doing their "stuff" on the baby grands, went over big. The dance contest proved a very in- teresting feature, with keen rivalry among the contenders. Paul Runnfeldt, of 1037 Spruce street, Winnetka, and Miss Lillian Beaver, of Chicago, were the choice of the judges as the best dancing couple, with Russell Bartz and Mrs. Bartz, of 437 Chestnut street, Win- netka, a close second. Commander Frank W. Blatchford, in behalf of Winnetka Post Number 10, presented the winners of the "Peach" and dance contests with verv beautiful prizes. George Matteoni, in charge of re- freshments, reported a rushing busi- ness in hot-dogs and cold drinks. The committee in charge of the affair, ex- pects to add a substantial sum to the post's service fund as a result of the "Frolic," and requests that this oppor- tunity be taken to thank the mem- bers and the many friends of the legion for their co-operation. Winnetkans Will Attend Annual Commerce Meeting Mr. and Mrs. John N. VanderVries and their son, Jack of 968 Pine street leave April 29, to attend the annual meeting of the United States Chamber of Commerce, to be held in Washing- ton, May 3. Mr. VanderVries is man- ager of the northern central division of the Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Van- derVries is president of the Winnet- ka League of Women Voters. Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Affleck of 695 Lincoln avenue will also go to the meeting and will leave Wednesday, April 27, planning to spend a few days in New York before going to Wash- ington. OPENS RENTAL DEPT.
