April 30, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 57 GOLF FANS JUMP GUN Over 1,000 Pillet Pelters Chop Up Muddy Turf on Local Links Before Season Opens More than 1,000 golf enthusiasts can't wait for the opening gun, according to the combined report of six Evanston and north shore clubs. With formal opening dates anywhere from two weeks to a month away, mashies and drivers are already splash- ing in the mud, while club managers are trying more or less vainly to round the links into spring form. Some 400 chased each other around the course at the Northwestern Golf club Sunday, April 10. The Evanston, the Community and the Wilmette clubs each reported 100 for the same date, and Manager J. T. Anderson of the Westmoreland counted his flock at 125. Due to the construction of a new drainage system, the links of the Glenn- view course counted only 25. The smiling skies of Easter brought the attendance at nearby golf club up close to the summer time mark.
