May 7, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 15 "Beauty of Simplicity" Characterizes Church Interior Looking from the chancel toward the congregation. In the foreground are seats for a choir of sixty persons. Architects who have studied these sketches comment upon the beauty of simplicity and restraint represented. Friday evening: Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Windes, 873 Spruce street; Mr. and Mrs. Edward P. Farwell, 1206 Asbury avenue; Mr. and Mrs. Carl J. Easter- berg, 1086 Cherry street. Those who were unable to attend the meeting to which they were invited during the first week, are urged to attend one of the meetings during the coming two weeks. Favor Gothic Edifice While the sketches herewith pre- pared by Charles Z. Klauder of Phil- adelphia, the architect retained by the church in 1922, are but tentative, they represent one of the most beautiful Gothic churches ever built in the west if not the entire country. The plan which has been submitted calls for the removal of the present church structure to a new location farther west on the church property, and the building of the new church where the present church stands. The new church would have its en- trance from the north on Pine street, would be more than 160 feet long, and from the crossing of the nave and trans- sept would rise a tower 3 feet square and 141 feet high. The church would have a seating capacity of 1200, with 656 in the nave, 176 in the transepts, and 359 in three galleries. In addition, there would be provision for a choir of sixty voices. In addition to the church, it is pro- posed to erect a church house in which would be located church offices, ladies parlor, meeting rooms, robing room for the choir, pastors' studies, and the Mary Williams Tyrrell Memorial li- brary. Cost About $660,000 While detailed plans have not been drawn, and accurate estimates have not yet been made, it is estimated that the church and church house proposed will cost $630,000, the removal of the present church to a new location, $17,- 000, and a basement under the relo- cated church, $13,000--a total of $660,- View from entrance to the proposed church, look- ing toward the chancel.
