I ---- EE ana a, May 7, 1927 BOY SCOUTS TO HOLD RALLY AT NEW TRIER Invite Parents to Attend North Shore Area Council Gathering This Evening Reports of the progress of the last six months in the North Shore Area Boy Scouts of America, the award of badges to progressing scouts, a talk by one of the leading Scout men of the Middle West, and other special events are being arranged for the Spring Council meeting program and Court of Honor to be held tonight, at 8 o'clock, at the New Trier High school auditorium. The public is in- vited. There is no admission charge. The Elmhurst Boy Scout Drum and Bugle corps will furnish music. This group of 35 scouts have been pacticing on selections especially for this gather- ing and the program committee as- sures an interesting night. Make Honor Awards One of the features of the evening's program will be the selection of the neatest troop from the thirteen com- peting, to receive the honor award. Among the additional program ma- terials and activities provided to en- rich boy activities that have been pro- vided through the inter-troop co-op- eration of the council, are: The Cabin for the use of all troops of the North Shore council for short hikes, being built by the Cook County Forest Preserve board, largely through the efforts of Commissioner Oscar W. Schmidt of Wilmette, is located two miles west of Glencoe, and is easily accessible to all troops. A copy of "The Talk o' the Troops," a monthly paper published by an Edi- torial board of older Scouts, is furnish- ed free to each Scout. Boost Civic Service Opportunities for Scouts to co-oper- ate in civic service and other service activities are provided. Scouts of Highland Park helped post the street flags on Washington's birthday. Scouts of Wilmette planted trees on the pub- lic library grounds in commemorating Arbor day. Troops of the north end of the Area attended a Scout rally recently held under the auspices of the American legion. Courts of honor, which provide in- centive and opportunity for advance- ment to higher ranks in Scouting, are held in most towns monthly, and in other towns at intervals as needed. Open rallies, in which troops may compete if they choose, are held monthly. These give opportunity to build co-operation within the troop, through competing with another group. Monthly Conferences Monthy conferences of junior offi- cers, those boys who have been given positions of trust, honor, and respon- sibility in their troops, are given an opportunity for an exchange of ex- perience. Camping facilities of "Camp Checa- gua," one of the well managed units of the Chicago Scout camps, have been made available for the use of troops, this summer. The quality of this camping experience is unsurpassed. The Owasippe camps are famed throughout the United States for their quality. Mrs. Percy B. Davis of 766 Prospect avenue, and her daughter, Dorothy, re- turned Sunday after six weeks spent in Washington at the Wardman Park hotel. ---- Mrs. Clarence Mehlhope of 300 Woodland avenue returned Saturday, April 30, from Cincinnati, where she had spent ten days with her sister.
