me i -- May 7, 1927 WINNETKA TALK SCOUTS PLANT TREES North Shore Troops to Spend Day Planting Pine Seedlings Near Site of Forest Preserve Cabin Boy Scouts from the various troops of the north shore will meet at the Council Cabin west of Glencoe, now un- der construction, Saturday morning, May 7, at 10 o'clock, to plant 100 young seedlings. These pines are to be named after the various troops of the council. There will be "Troop No. 2 of Wil- mette's Trees," the "Trees of Troop 31 of Highland Park," "Trees of Troop 52 of Lake Bluff," etc. The name of "Camp Scout Haven" has been suggested for the cabin. Other names are being suggested by Scouts and friends. Several troops are con- ducting contests for the naming of the week-end camp. Although the logs are only up to six or seven feet high, and the date of de- dication of the cabin is not yet de- cided upon, many troops are hiking to the site and looking over the layout. They agree that it will become a regu- lar "Scout Haven." A note of precaution is sounded in a letter to Scoutmasters issued from Council headquarters: "Now that an opportunity has come to us, its twin brother, responsibility, is also ours. Scouts will not carry axes into the camp. Each troop may bring an axe which will be kept in the charge of the adult leader. No live tree or shrub of any kind is ever cut down in the Forest Preserve. "The best time to prevent an accident is before it happens. Let's start now to sell our Scouts the idea of protecting our cabin, camp equipment, trees and all wild life. We must not have the bark on the logs of our cabin or trees marred by knife-cut initials." Christian Science "Everlasting Punishment" was the subject of the lesson-sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, Sunday, May 1. The golden text was from Proverbs 3:11, "My son, despise not the chast- ening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction." Among the citations which comprise the lesson-sermon was the following from the Bible: "Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways and live? Cast away from you all your trans- gressions, whereby ye have transgress- ed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? For I have no pleas- ure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye" (Ezek. 18:23, 31-32). The lesson-sermon also included the following passages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "To the physical senses, the strict demands of Christian Sci- ence seem peremptory; but mortals are hastening to learn that Life is God, good, and that evil has in reality neither place nor power in the human or the divine economy" (p. 327). Mrs. George W. Chatterton, the mother of Mrs. S. Edwin Earle of 922 Tower road, returned Sunday from southern California with Elsie and Samuel Earle. Mr. and Mrs. Earle are still in the West. When they come back in the middle of the month, Mrs. Chatterton will return to her home in Springfield.
