+ Cy May 14, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 23 ANNA CASE HAS STAR ROLE FOR FESTIVAL Noted Concert Soprano to Be Heard With Lawrence Tibbett in Last of Series Miss Anna Case, the noted concert soprano, who is to sing at the North Shore Music Festival as one of the soloists, has just completed arrange- ments regarding the selections which she is to present. Miss Case will be one of the soloists at the evening con- cert May 28, the last of the five in the Festival series, when she will appear on the same program with Lawrence Tibbett, who is an accepted favorite with north shore audiences. It is announced that Miss Case will sing a recitative and aria from "The Marriage of Figaro," by Mozart, and "Der Hirt auf dem Felsen," with clarinet obbligato, by Franz Schubert. It is expected that she will also be heard in a duet with Lawrence Tib- bett, but definite announcement re- garding this selection is to be made later. These numbers will give ample opportunity to hear Miss Case to the best advantage. She will appear in place of Mary Lewis, whose engage- ment has been cancelled. Tibbett in Great Favor Mr. Tibbett, whose fine baritone voice and dramatic ability have won him favor, will also sing solo numbers on the same program. The unusual quality of the offerings that are to be made at this concert is evident from the fact that there will be three con- ductors--Messrs. Stock, Oldberg and Lutkin, each of whom will direct spe- cial selections. Prof. Oldberg will conduct while the orchestra plays a selection from his own symphony, and Mr. Stock will wield the baton during the purely orchestral selections. The orchestral numbers will include "IL.e Carnaval Romain," by Berlioz, and the splendid suite from "The Fire Bird," by Stravinsky, in addition to the movement from the symphony by Professor Oldberg. Chorus of 600 The Festival chorus, 600 voices strong, will supply a splendid climax to the concert by singing a scene and the Finale from "The Mount of Olives," Beethoven's only cantata. This selection concludes with the great "Hallelujah," chorus. It will be seen that this program is both interesting and varied, as well as being exceptionally high class. The Stravinsky composition caused quite a flurry when it first appeared because of its unusual features. The feeling against it, which was shown in sone quarters for a time, has now disap- peared, so that it has become one of the most popular of orchestral selec- tions. Taken as a whole, the concert is certain to bring the series to an enthusiastic close. LECTURES ON EUROPE Ralph B.
