OR Ls 21 WINNE TKA "TALK June 4, 1927 A Few North Shore Societies and Circles Still Meeting Four Women's Groups Announce Plans for Future Activities By JEAN TEN BROECK One by one activities of women's clubs other than garden have lulled themselves to sleep for the summer months. Their members have more intimate things on hand, family out- ings, weddings, perhaps, and plans for long periods of travel. However, a few groups still have announcements to make. The Kentucky society of Evanston and the North Shore is to hold its next meeting Tuesday afternoon, June 14, at the home of Mrs. T. Edward Quisenberry, 2517 Lincoln street, Ev- anston, at 2:30 o'clock. The program will concern itself with some phase of the History of Kentucky which is the theme of the summer and fall meet- ings. The board of directors of the society will gather at the home of Mrs. E. J. Buffington, 1140 Forest avenue, Evanston, for a meeting next Tuesday morning. The Wilmette board of the Infant Welfare Society of Chicago held an all-day sewing meeting at the home of Mrs. Frederick Tilt in Evanston, Thursday, May 26. A nominating committee was appointed to report at the annual meeting to be held the fourth Thursday of June at the home of Mrs. Robert E. Kenyon, 1011 Greenwood avenue. The next meeting of the North Shore Wellesley circle will take place Tuesday, June 7, at 2:30 o'clock, at the home of Mrs. George E. Bliss, 522 North Linden avenue, Highland Park. The North Shore Catholic Woman's league will continue to hold its regu- lar meetings in the Winnetka Woman's club, it was decided at a board meeting held May 27, at the home of the new president, Mrs. Wil- liam Schildgen of Evanston. There will be no club meetings until October. The following committee chairmen were chosen at the last meeting: Mrs. John Janette of Kenilworth, member- ship; Mrs. Charles Coyle of Winnetka, auditing; Mrs. Leo J. Winnetkan Elected Head of Sorority Association Mrs. L. E. Mitten of 562 Hill terrace was elected president of Tau associa- tion of Kappa Alpha Theta at the annual meeting of the association held May 25, at the Greenwood Inn, Evy- anston. All the old directors were re- elected. Mrs. D. Bligh Grasett of 797 Walden road is one of these. The alumnae also held a meeting at the same time and place as the association meeting. They conducted their regu- lar business. The alumnae will give a luncheon for the Theta seniors at Northwestern June 8, at the North Shore hotel. Mrs. MacMurray of Chicago has charge of the luncheon. Sunday Club Officers "James Simpson, Horace W. Arm- strong, William C. Boyden and Rush Butler are Winnetka 'men who recent- ly were named officers of the Sunday Evening club of Chicago. Clifford W. Laster to Wed Florida Waples June 22 The date of the marriage of Miss Florida Waples, daughter of William S. Waples of Downers Grove, to David Radcliffe Lasier, son of Mrs. D. S. Lasier of 731 Lincoln avenue, has been announced this past week to be Wednesday, June 22. The cere- mony will be performed by Rev. Hugh M. MacWhorter of Ottowa, Ill, in St. Andrews Episcopal church of Downers Grove, and will take place at 8:30 o'clock. A reception will follow the ceremony in the bride's home. Miss Waples' attendants members of her class at Rockford college, and in addition to these friends, a group of Rockford college friends will be included in the guests. Mrs. Laura Grant Short, head of the music department at the college, will play the organ, both for a program before the ceremony, and the wedding march. Miss Elizabeth Ritchie of Chicago will attend the bride as maid of honor. Miss Marion Chinn of Duluth, Minn, and Miss Cordelia Hancock Lyons of Wheaton, Ill, will be the bridesmaids. Mr. Lasier has asked his brother, John Lasier, to serve as best man. The list of ushers includes R. Bruce Mac- Clellan of Delavan, Wis., and George E. Waples of Lexington, Ky. The bride's brother, William A. Waples of Ashland, Ky., will give the bride away. In addition to the above attendants, four nieces and nephews of Miss Waples and Mr. Lasier will be in the wedding party. Ruth Harris, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Harris, Jr, of Winnetka, and Billie Waples of Oak Park, will act as flower boy and girl, while James Harris and Katherine Waples will be the ribbon stretchers. After a month's honeymoon, Mr. Lasier and his bride will make their future home in Winnetka. Miss Wa- ples is a graduate of Rockford college. Mr. Lasier is a graduate of New Trier High school and a former student at the University of Michigan. During the World war he served in the army. Gives Tea Wednesday for Miriam Johnson Mrs. Cedric Smith, 62 Warwick ave- nue, Winnetka, was hostess at a tea at her home from 2 until 6 Wednesday afternoon in honor of her sister, Miss Miriam Johnson, who is to become the bride of George Turnley Dyer, Jr., of Evanston, son of Mrs. George Turnley Dyer of St. Louis, Wednesday, June 8, at 4 o'clock, at 18 East Elm street, Chicago. Bishop Griswold will assist Dean DeWitt in performing the cere- mony, which will be followed by a re- ception. They make their home most of the vear in Florida. At the present time they are living in the Virginia hotel in Chicago. Miss Bissell attended Girton school in Winnetka for two years, and then graduated from the Faulkner school in Chicago. After graduating from the University of Chicago, she attended Wellesley col- lege for one year, finishing with a year at the University of Colorado. Mr. Whitman graduated from Harvard in 1919. He and his bride will make their future home in La Crosse, Wis., where Mr. Whitman is associated with the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy rail- road. Nethercott-Smith Wedding Is Small Affair of Today Miss Gertrude M. Nethercott of Winnetka and Fred Smith of Cham- paign will be married this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock in the Congregational church. Rev. James Austin Richards will read the service before a very few friends. Mrs. Betty Dale of Winnetka and I. Hughes of Chicago will be the only attendants. Following the ceremony, Mrs. Edna Woods will hold a reception in her apartment in Evanston. Miss Nethercott is at present teach- ing at the Horace Mann school and lives at 561 Lincoln avenue. She is a graduate of Ypsilanti Normal college in Michigan. Mr. Smith is a graduate of the Uni- versity of Illinois and is now doing graduate work at Northwestern uni- versity.
