June 18, 1927 WINNETKA TALK 27 KINDERGARTEN COLLEGE OPENS SUMMER SESSION Offer Many Valuable Courses in Classes Which Are to Open Monday, June 20 The six-week summer session of the National Kindergarten Element- ary college will open on Monday, June 20, following registration on Fri- day and Saturday. Although the sum- mer session of the college is designed primarily to meet the special problems of elementary teachers, kindergart- ners, nursery school workers and su- pervisors, it includes courses in reli- gious education and other subjects of particular interest to the church school teacher; and parents will find the session an excellent introduction to child training. Many of the regular members of the faculty will remain for the summer session, and several interesting addi- tions have been made from the facul- ties of other colleges and universities. "Scientific Handling of Behavior Prob- lems," a new course by Edna Dean Baker announced for the summer, will include the study of outstanding be- havior problems with children and the application of the principles of mental hygiene and psychology to their suc- cessful solution. and Caroline Crawford McLean, formerly of Columbia university and well known as the author of several books of rhythms for children, will give the course in dramatic art, and Viggo Bovbjerg, a graduate of the School of Physical Education of Denmark, will conduct the classes in folk dancing. Manuscript handwriting, nursery school education and scientific studies in reading and English also appear on the program for the session. Leaders in thé field of education and research have been secured for the special lectures, which are given in Harrison hall during the summer and to which the public is invited. Anderson, head of the Institute of Child Welfare, University of Min- nesota, "University of Minnesota Child Development." On July 8 William Scott Gray of the School of Education, University of Chicago, will speak on "Reading Pre- paration and Training"; July 11, Ethel Kawin, director of Pre-School and Nursery School branch, Illinois Insti- tute of Juvenile Research, will speak on the work of the Institute; July 14, Dr. John E. Stout, dean of the School of Education, Northwestern universi- ty, "General Importance and Control of Experimental Work." Bird T. Baldwin, head of the Child Welfare Research station, University of Iowa, will speak on July 18, giving an outline of the work which is car- ried on so successfully there; on July 21, Norman E.
