Blatchford Is Summoned by Death on Monday, June 13 N. H. Blatchford, for 22 years a resi- dent of Winnetka, died suddenly Mon- day, June 13, at his home, 325 Ridge avenue. The death was caused by a stroke. Funeral services were held Thursday at his home, with burial at Graceland cemetery. The Rev. Thomas A. Good- win of the Winnetka Congregational church had charge of the services. Mr. Blatchford was born in Chicago 77 years ago, and lived there until he moved to Winnetka. At the time of his death he was still active in the lead business, with the firm of E. W. Blatchford. The father of Mr. Blatchford, John B. Blatchford, was the first ordained minister in Chicago. He was a min- ister of the Presbyterian denomina- tion. Coming to Chicago from Buffalo on a selling schooner, his boat was wrecked off what is now Washington street, Chicago. Oswald Schmidt Dies at Residence of Son Here Last Saturday Oswald Schmidt, who had lived for the past two years with his son, J. R. Schmidt, 973 Willow road, died early Saturday morning, June 11, at his son's home. Mr. Schmidt, who was 87 vears old at the time of his death, had not been well since Christmas and had been seriously ill for two weeks. The funeral services were held Mon- day at Mr. Schmidt's former home in Monterey, Ind. He was buried there beside his wife, who died ten years ago. Mr. Schmidt was born in Germany, coming to the United States when he was about nine years old. He was a farmer until his retirement two years ago, when he came to Winnetka. Eight children survive Mr. Schmidt : J. R. Schmidt, of Winnetka; Andrew, of Ind.; Tony, of Hammond, Ind.; Mrs. Marie Schriner of Hammond; Mrs. Teresia Bover, and Mrs. Louise Weber of South Bend; Mrs. Elizabeth Beerwort of Lake Port, near Knox, Ind.; and Mrs. Katherine Krous of Los Angeles, Cal. Mrs. Krous was the only one of the family who was un- able to attend the funeral. Mrs. Frederick Scott, 175 Sheridan road, left Sunday for Greenwich, Con- necticut, where she is attending a ses- sion of the American Garden club.
